Why Kinesio Tape

A lot of people are claiming that standard taping methods does not hold a candle to the kinesio taping method, and with good reasons. Not only are they really effective in relieving pain and healing injuries, they are also very economical.

The kinesio tape became popular when it was donated for the use of the athletes competing in the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China. They come in fun and quirky designs that made them some sort of fashion statement. Popular athletes like Lance Armstrong, David Beckham, Kerri Walsh, Tiger Woods, and a lot more uses it. But how, exactly, does the magic of the kinesio tape work?

This hubpage will try to discuss in detail how it works. Read on to find out more.

How The Kinesio Tape Is Used

TheĀ kinesio taping method is said to be able to alleviate pain caused by different types of injuries. It prevents lymphatic complications. It promotes movement. It also does not hinder circulation. As a whole, it is focused on putting into effect the principles of kinesiology. There are quite a lot of benefits that you can derive from it; much more than anyone can from standard taping methods. It reduces the probability of having inflammation, edema, and other types of discomfort.

The most common types of muscular pain that people experience are normally in the neck, shoulder, arms, knees, legs, foot, and the hands. Activities that require them to overextend these parts usually lead to some damage or another to the tissues in these areas, causing a lot of discomfort which can sometimes be debilitating. The kinesio tape and the taping method that makes use of it is said to be able to eliminate these things.

Seminars and books are available that are solely dedicated on how to be able to apply the kinesio tape properly in order to be able to alleviate pain. All of these applications have one aim, that is, to be able to support the injured parts and to increase the circulation in the affected areas to enable a faster healing process.

To be able to get the maximum use of the kinesio tape and the kinesio taping method, you should use it up to about 5 days. Make sure that you get the original ones which are stretchable and water-proof. Because of the materials that are used to make them, they make the skin breathe easily, making them more ideal to use than other standard taping methods that are out in the market today.

The kinesio tape comes in different shapes - the X-shaped, the Y-shaped, the I-shaped, and the fan-shaped. These different shapes are used for different types of injuries. Knowing how to use them is really important because incorrect application could further heighten the injury. Below is the general flow on how to use the kinesio tape:

1. To be able to stick to the injured area properly, you need to make sure that the skin is dry and smooth so if there is a lot of hair in the injured area, it needs to be shaved first to ensure that the tape is glued properly. Take note that the kinesio tape is thermo-active, meaning it sticks when pressure is applied to it. Pressure is applied by rubbing.

2. The kinesio tape should be cut according to the size needed for the affected area.

3. If you are going to use it for exercising and other types of strenuous activities, it should be applied between 20-30 minutes before the activity so as not to loosen the hold of the tape.

4. Since the tape is stretchable and can stretch to about 140% of its original length, determining whether to have it stretched or not when applied depends on the injury and the technique that corresponds to it.

5. To remove it, you should make sure that it does not burn the skin. Moistening it a bit can make its removal painless.

Here is a more extensive list of what the kinesio taping method is able to achieve:

1. It decreases pressure, thereby increasing blood and lymphatic circulation and reducing pain and speeding up the healing process as a result.

2. It makes the range of movement maximized even with the existence of the injury, thereby improving the function of the injured areas.

3. It decreases the amount of toxic waste and at the same time, decreases local temperature.

4. It is anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic.

5. It normalizes muscular function since it is able to support and stimulate the muscles.

6. It diminishes muscular fatigue and helps avoid cramps and other related injuries.

Remember, though, that before using the kinesio tape and the techniques related to it, you should make sure that you educate yourself first about the best practices in applying it. Being able to apply it properly will ensure a faster recovery and a more effective prevention of injuries.
