Appositives: Gypsy Camp
63A what?
I was reading about Appositives in the Everything Writing Poetry Book by Tina D. Eliopulos & Todd Scott Moffett and I thought I'd try to use some in a poem. "Appositives are structures that repeat something using different terms."
Here is a website that defines it with examples. http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_appos.html
This poem is also a sestina.
Gypsy Camp
Oh stars that shine and gibbous moon
We gather in the velvet glade for dancing
We pile the sacred wood upon the fire
For this is the night we are proud to be gypsy
Our dark skin by firelight is glistening
Our brother picks up his sensuous violin
He stands tall and proud tuning his violin
We turn our faces to our sister moon
The moonlight on the river glistening
It is the beat of the drum that drives the dancing
There is music in your veins when you are a gypsy
The musicians gather beside the enchanting fire
We grasp hands and start to dance our tribute to the fire
First we undulate to the soulful spirited violin
The music that flows through the veins of the gypsy
We lift our vibrant voices to the moon
The drums pick up the pace of the dancing
Soon our skirts are swirling and our skin is glistening
I grab my tambourine with silken ribbons glistening
I offer the spirits thanks for the fire
I mimic the flames with my passionate dancing
I dance around my brother while his fingers fly over the violin
We the Rom declare our freedom under the wise moon
We are born to always wander though others spit and call us gypsy
But we do not listen as they point and stare and swear gypsy
They are jealous of our fine jewels glistening
They hide indoors while our people dance with the moon
They shut their doors and put a screen in front of their fire
They do not have time for the violin
They do not see the point in dancing
A few of them will come out to watch us dancing
A few of them wish they could be the ones called gypsy
Sometimes one of them will join us and play the violin
And dance with us until his skin is glistening
Sometimes within them they will feel the fire
And remember what it is like to join spirits under the moon
When you hear the violin do you feel like dancing?
When you see the moon do you want to be a gypsy?
Come dance until your skin is glistening around the fire

Be mellow like Jello. Be smart like a cherry tart. Don't lie like pecan pie. Don't be scorned, be popcorn.
