Prince Albert Runaway Mom-Villain or Victim?
48Justice?
I have witnessed some truly strange and outrageous things in my life but something I found in the news today is really troubling me. It has to do with the case of April Dawn Halkett.
This young Canadian woman was recently acquitted on charges of criminal child abandonment. The facts are simple. She went into labor in the ladies room of the Prince Albert Wal Mart and gave birth to a 3 month premature baby boy.
The baby was alive and found in the toilet bowl surrounded by blood and bath tissue. Only quick action by another lady in the store saved the child's life because his mother had fled the scene.
I cannot judge
I am not going to argue with the judges decision or hurl epithets at this young woman for callously abandoning her baby. There may very well be other facts about April Halkett of which I am unaware. She might be mentally challenged or have some serious emotional disorder which while not excusing her behavior might at least explain it.
What I do know is that this was not her first pregnancy and that she did leave the child to die. My question to you is this. Is it reasonable to accept her statement that she didn't know she was 6 months pregnant?
Especially considering that it wasn't her first pregnancy?
My own experience with two wives, (not at the same time) and our five children leads me to be skeptical. I, however am not an expert. Just the father of five wonderful kids that a story like this really bothers cause I have to tell you. There is no pain I wouldn't endure for my children's sake and I'll bet most if not all of you feel the same.
So tell me, is April Dawn Halkett the villain or a victim?

Yes it is so disturbing because it defies every human instiinct. My ex would fight King Kong for our kids, and win too.

I think there is more to this story and she was possibly mentally unstable for some reason. When you consider the pain involved with childbirth I find it amazing that no one noticed what was going on earlier. Interesting case
