Live breeders give birth to their young alive and swimming, egg layers have to do things in a lot different way, a lot more taxing on the parent fish, they have to fertilize after the clutch as been placed in the nest,then watch over them constantly till they hatch and swim by them selves. Egg layers are much more apt to lose offspring by having eggs devoured by other fish. Then again live bearers like guppies tend to eat thier young. Not all live bearers are carnivorous in that way, some take care of the young and ensure their saftety. some like the Egyptian Mouthbreeder from Africa collect all the young in thier mouth to protect them from harm, then releases them when danger has passed. Others charge intruders that come near thir brood. Aat any rate mums and dads do the tight thing. Buying fish can be a fun experience, you get to be friends with the pet department personnel as well. Ask questions, they will know the answers.

Don't buy too many fish for the size tank you have, they wont survive. Buy in pairs or more of each species you want. Never mix goldfish with tropicals. they become aggressive to each other. Fancy goldfish are fun to buy, so many pretty shapes and colors.

Be sure you have place to put it that will hold the weight. And that will be attractive in the room. Be sure you dont have direct sunlight coming into it, it will grow green algea.

• Now.. clean the new tank with salt as a cleaning agent.
• Dry thoroughly
• Wash gravel using the same method.
• Place gravel into bottom of tank
• Set up filter
• Add heater
• Do NOT plug anything in untill water is added
• Add water,room temperature. Plug in the heater,filter and lights. Allow it to set over night. .
• Place plant (live or plastic) into gravel along with any decorative items (rocks, temples, etc,.
• Be sure the temp is right and the filter is working.
• Go out and purchase fish. Bring fish home, allow their plastic bags to set in the tank until the water temps are the same, about 1 hour.
• Release fish, feed them a small amount, then ENJOY.
