Should you Build or Restore? Read this to help you decide which will work the best for you. Building does utilize valuable resources but this can be diminished by getting reclaimed lumber and buying items for salvage companies. When you build you can add what you want, where you want, and many times, can create a more ecologically friendly home that when you are starting with a home that is all ready built.

But there is a lot of satisfaction in restoring a home. To take an old house, with all of the unique characteristics of an old house, and restore it to former glory...well that is about the most satisfying feeling in the world, for some of us anyway.

Once you decide to buy an older home you are faced with another set of questions. Should you renovate a historic home, or should you restore it? And really, what in the world is the difference? Avoid doing things in ways that you may later regret by reading Renovate or Restore?

Marye, thank you so much for all this wealth of information. I'm still in the paying-rent-paycheck-to-paycheck phase of life, but I'm always dreaming of old houses and a future life in them. More fodder for the day-dreams! Yeay!

This is terrific information for people thinking about what type of house they should invest in. Purchasing a home is big investment, and it's important for people to stop and think about what they really like - and need - before making an impule purchase!
