Arabic Golden Age

May Hariri's Arabic heritage includes the period when the Arabic world reached supernal heights of achievement, called the Islamic Golden Age.

It is also referred to as the Islamic Renaissance, refers to a period of growth and flourish , both culturally and intellectually that prevailed throughout the Islamic world--from Morocco to Pakistan--from the 3rd to the 16th century. The Islamic Golden Age started when the Abbasid Caliphate, devotees in the custom of Muhammad, channeled monies from Damascus in Turkey to Baghdad in Iraq.

The Abbasid Caliphate were real 'knowledge-hounds' and they highly encouraged the creation of many academic and public institutions. For example, in a “House of Wisdom,” Arabic bookmen translated important works in a number of ancient texts and languages including: Iraqi, Roman, Chinese, Indian, Persian,Byzantine, Greek and others.

Also in this period, the clandestine art of papermaking, received from Chinese prisoners in 751A.D., initiated the building of large paper mills in their larger cities.

By the time of the 10th century, central Islamic cities such as Baghdad, Cairo, and Cordoba boasted enormous libraries with millions of books, many of which were sadly destroyed in subsequent centuries.

The Islamic Golden Age was the source of profound findings in optics, mechanics, agriculture, physics, chemistry, astronomy, mathematics and a constellation of other fields.
