Sunday in Pasadena

We spent a wonderful day with our archery buddies from http://www.Paleoplanet.net.

Some of us worked on bows and arrows. As usual many passersby dropped in to see what curious manner of folk we were. Some of them stayed and shot a bow for the first time or got hands-on help making their first bow.

Tom brought his guitar and managed to lose his abalone shell pick on the ground in all the crunchy leaves. We never did find it, but he had a back-up. Phil grabbed the guitar to teach Tom how to play one of the Beatle's songs and Tom worked on the melody on his handmade wooden flute.

Other archers used the chronometer to see how fast their arrows were going.

Jon and Steve worked on flintknapping over a tarp. Obsidian is very sharp (volcanic glass) so safety glasses were a must. But you just have to feel pretty cool when you can make your own arrowhead.

I was in awe of John's twisted osage bow. It seems to work just fine. And I love the color of osage.

I worked on my crochet and knitting. I should have brought my bow to work on.

Later in the day I re-learned how to play Frisbee (tm). Tim had mercy on me and threw it nearly perfectly to me every time while I managed to pretty much throw it into the weeds every other time. I'd forgotten how much fun a flying disk is.

Amy learned to make her own bowstrings with the help of Guy and Sal. Then some friends of ours met us there and we went out to dinner at Hamburger Continental. That was some mighty fine food.

I can't wait to do it all over again next month.

Wonderful pictures! I have not had the chance for archery in a few years now and I really miss it.

It's one of the few sports that easily adapts to the whole family.
