Is Your Home Based Business Selling Hope, Hype, or the Real Deal?
If you’re an Internet marketer or for that matter an Internet consumer you’ve seen the ad “Make a six figure income over night…just buy following my few simple methods in this $49 e-book.” You fell for it and so did I. We are all looking for that magic bullet.
So you buy the e-book with the hopes of finally finding that perfect way to make money online…nope….what you find out is that it’s just another sales pitch to buy the high priced back end product. Now you feel scammed…Is this wrong, or just good copywriting?
Well as a consumer you feel angry because someone has just wasted your time and hard earned money. But, as an Internet marketer you know you have the right to pitch a product. However, when your marketing online you have the responsibility is to give the consumer value for their purchase; what they do with it is their choice.
Is free really free
If you're an Internet marketer you know that free, easy money sells. The average consumer wants something for nothing, or so it seems. Or at least they want it fast and easy. But ask anyone who makes money online the reality of those two ingredients is nearly impossible.
So, is tantalizing someone to buy your product by offering them a free or low cost e-book lying to them or just good copy-writing? Some might say it’s lying if the purpose of their purchase was to make that six figure income tomorrow and surprise…it didn't happen. Yet another might say no if it offers a solution to the problem they were looking to solve. However, the effects can be a double edged sword if the consumer feels mislead. It’s devastating to the marketer and leaves the consumer jaded.
Maybe it’s just an experience we all must go through. Everyone has a hard luck story. In order to achieve the millions we all desire you have to attend the school of hard knocks. Robert Kiyosaki of Rich Dad Poor Dad fame knows that it’s a “process” to financial freedom and we don’t always get it right the first time. But if we take away one nugget from each experience, with that growth becomes knowledge. It’s our right of passage to the Promised Land.
What about you the seller
What’s really wrong with telling the consumer that if you follow my methods outlined in this e-book you can be making a six figure income in 12 months? Right….I doubt you’ll sell one book. It simply does not meet their need. The consumer what’s it fast and they want it now.So how do we get past this dilemma? How can we satisfy the needs of the customer? As an entrepreneur it’s really frustrating to be selling a product to someone that is never going to use it. It’s hard work if your business is a Network Marketing company and you’re trying to build a down-line with customers who expect you to do all the work.
It’s hard to know what to sell; and if you’re opportunity is a right fit for this person. You can’t sell hard work, there’s no market for it. The average consumer is not looking for another “reality’ opportunity.
Greener pastures
No matter what you sell or how you feel about the hype in copywriting, you must sell a solution to a problem. Your message is important and so is your honesty. If it’s not the solution for the consumer looking for instant gratification then we must all learn to move on. You really don’t want that sort of consumer anyway when you’re building a business.
So I go back to the question, are all internet marketers liars? I think not!
