Should Children Be Drinking Energy Drinks?

Once you are aware of the facts of what harm caffeine can cause to the body, you have to consider energy drinks dangerous. When you drink an energy drink or two, it may seem like an innocent way to help you keep up with this hectic world. But really, it could be doing you and your children more harm than good. So you should really never consider an energy drink as a “treat” for your child, when it could be the start of an addition, or even deadly.

When you research this subject you will see that the most common ingredients like caffeine, sugar, and sodium are dangerous when taken in high dosages for any of the diabetics out there, and for people with high or low blood sugar. Also understand that it is not always clear how much caffeine or sugar you are congesting from the ingredients written on the can.  Some caffeine relate ingredients are masked behind a name you are not familiar with.  This is done for a reason, mainly to keep the attention away from the common caffeine issue.

Caffeine Comparison

That small 8 oz. can of "energy", has about 80 mg of caffeine, this is very close to the same amount found in an instant cup of coffee. Now consider drinking a 16 oz. can every morning and you’re getting around 150 mg. Add a Snickers bar in the mix, and without a second thought you are about to go through the roof on a caffeine/sugar overload! And this will then be followed by a huge breakdown of energy an hour or so later.

This can be an extreme issue for a person with some type of a heart condition. Because the energy drinks can boost the heart rate and blood pressure, to the point of palpitations. So, when you ask are energy drinks dangerous? The answer is always going to be yes, they certainly can be dangerous! You may not even know you have a heart condition, and find out too late after a few energy drinks.  Is this what you want? I think we all know the answer.

Did you know that many of todays athletes make the mistake of drinking energy drinks before their big game to help them gain alertness, and an added edge on their competition? But caffeine can have a dehydrating effect on them, and have them desperately needing water, which can also be fatal. (Instead of an energy drink, they should be reaching for a sports drink, like Gatorade).

Most have read about the guy who overdosed after 10 energy drink cocktails at a rave. You may also have heard about another guy actually dying after only drinking 4 energy drinks! Understand that an overdose can be as innocent as a student cramming for a big test, pulling an “all nighter” with the help of a few energy drinks to keep him up. Kids don’t understand that some of the ingredients in that energy drink can be very, very dangerous, when consumed in large amounts over a short period of time.   Our children are invincible, right? WRONG!!

There are all types of dangerous side effects, more than you may have ever considered, like an irregular heartbeat, infertility, ulcers, excess sweating, jitters, and anxiousness. Caffeine can also reduce your coordination and balance at times, increase your body temperature and heart rate, and disturb your normal sleeping patterns.

The Answer To Too Much Caffeine

To keep my children safe, and away from the caffeine in those energy drinks, I have chosen a safe alternative. It’s a powder that you mix with water that is safe for you to drink, without any of the high levels of caffeine included in the mix. And the tastes is great!

The drink mixtureI am talking about is called “Charge It” which you simply add to a bottle of water, avoiding the carbonation, which also makes it better for you. Charge It lifts your mood, and gives you a positive electron charge! You can drink it 2 to 3 times a day to enhance your energy levels without any of the health risks. It’s safe for children, and cheaper than the energy drinks in a can. My kids love it!
