Having just watched a fascinating documentary on face transplants, I am left with the question of whether or not other people are comfortable with this, or if they feel it is morally wrong.

When the concept first became public a few years ago, I thought it a little controversial, but could also see why it could be so important to someone who desperately needed it due to disfigurement. The programme I watched tonight illustrated just how important it could be to someone who has a family and a life, and who simply wants to be considered as normal as possible.

If it were your relative who had died would you be happy to donate their face for transplant? Would you worry that it may mean a perfect replica of your lost loved one was out there walking the streets, just waiting for you to bump into them and be shocked?

Having watched this documentary I am now far more comfortable with the idea of face transplants. I can see why people would desperately need one, and have also seen that the person ends up looking different to the orginal owner of the face due to their individual bone structures.

God knows, that if I were unlucky enough to suffer horrific burns, or acid in the face, I would do anything to look as normal as possible again, and if I were the donor, I would like to think the face I no longer needed was going to benefit some unfortunate victim of scarring in such a way as to allow them to live a quality life, preferably without being stared at constantly. Okay, the surgery is still in it's infancy, but as the years go on it will improve, and allow other victims to go on to live lives they could otherwise not have hoped for.

So in a day and age where science is advancing at a phenomenal rate, do you think a face transplant is acceptable, or do you find the idea somewhat strange?

Would you prefer us to go back to the days when burns victims had skin from their buttocks transplanted on to their faces?

If you were to die tomorrow, would you be happy to donate your face for anothers' gain?

Would you want to have another person's face transplanted on to you if you were horrifically scarred after an accident?
