The Veil of Secrecy
It's been sixty one years since the Roswell, New Mexico incident of 1947. Since then, UFO sightings world wide have numbered in the thousands. From regular citizens to police officers, from Naval and Air Force personnel to astronauts and presidents. Movies like E.T. The Extraterrestrial and Aliens have entertained millions and made billions at the box office. And through it all, our government maintains its veil of secrecy and denial.

Prone to Hysteria
I can't blame them, really. In 1938 Orson Wells' radio broadcast of H.G.Wells' War of the Worlds sent the listening public into mass hysteria. Residents armed themselves and scoured the country sides in pick-up trucks, looking for aliens to shoot.
But we're smarter and more sophisticated now, you might argue. Are we?
The media's repeated airing of the Rodney King beating and the subsequent acquittal of the officers involved sent the black community into violent riots. The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines spoke out against President Bush and the red-necks flew into a veritable donnybrook. Recent anger by U.S. citizens over the Mexican immigrant issue sent the Latino community into mass public disorder. How many more incidents can you name off the top of your head? We humans love to riot. But, that's not what this hub is really about...

Unidentified Submerged Objects
It's about USOs: Unidentified Submerged Objects. If you've been watching the History Channel series, UFO Files, you know about USOs. If you haven't, USOs are UFOs which have been sighted coming out of or going into the water, typically large bodies of water such as oceans and large lakes. In one amazing incident, a group of naval officers aboard ship and out at sea watched as a very large USO, about the same size as the ship they were on, emerged from the ocean and slowly glided past them, close enough that the men could see the craft's personnel through its side portals - looking back at them! Keep in mind, these aren't drunken fisherman, but U.S. Navy personnel (this incident is related by one of the ship's officers about midway through "USOs Part 2"). Astronauts have been witnessing UFOs since they first left the atmosphere. Fighter pilots see them so regularly they no longer think anything of it.

What If...
But it's the USOs that got me thinking (stay with me, 'cause this is gonna go way out there!): What if they aren't aliens at all? What if they've been here all along? The first race of people to evolve on Earth - and possibly in the oceans. An aquatic, or amphibious, highly evolved race of Earthlings. Life did, after all, begin in the seas, then move onto land. If this race began its evolution even thousands of years after the first amoeba, they would still be much further along the evolutionary scale than we are. There is evidence of aliens all through history, way back to cave drawings.

Poetic Justice
And get this: You know the alien abductions we hear so much about? What do we, ourselves, do with the other creatures of this planet, the animals, the creatures we consider lower lifeforms? We watch them, we capture them, we used to put them in zoos - now we put them in "game preserves," we study them, we dissect them, we learn from them, we even experiment on them. We breed them to help, or control, their population.
We do to them what the aliens do to us.

The Vast Oceans of the World
We haven't begun to fully explore all of the Earth's oceans. This is a water planet, made up mostly of vast and deep bodies of water. It would be very easy for an entire race of people to hide their existence from us (except for the occasional sighting), especially if they control their population, all these thousands of years.
Could it be that Man is not the dominant species of this planet? Could it be we never were?
Any science-whiz readers; I would love to hear how this scenario would or would not be possible.
The series of videos to the right is the show that sparked my imagination and triggered this whole haired-brained theory. So, watch at your own discretion.

Thanks DrummerBoy. I know it's an 'out there' theory, but possible, I think... At the very least, fun to think about.
Sometimes I feel like I'm from another planet, (LOL!!!) but I hadn't considered the possibility of an "Elder Species" co-inhabiting our planet. I have always wondered what we offered in the way of interest to a superior species, and now that you mention it, the same relationship between us, and say a dog, could be the reason for alleged alien abductions - the jury is still out on that issue in my book.
Thought-provoking, and like most ideas along this line, catches my interest.By the way, I am one of those who support space exploration, and I watch with interest the Mars exploration and colonization websites. Go to the website: http://www.marshome.org/ and you'll find people seriously studying the problems and challenges involved. I hope one day we become the aliens visiting other worlds, and that we truly go in peace.

I saw a documentary of moving objects out one of our space flight missions....no doubt there were many things moving around...up, down, stopping and firing...very strange stuff.

Seriously, if they are as advanced as one would have to be in order to exist as we think they do, maybe they are not really thinking all that much about us. We may be just so much background, possibly even an annoyance, in cosmic affairs of such a magnitude that no one of us could begin to understand.
After all, we see ants every day, but how much time to we stop to think about them? Mostly only when they are getting into our cupboards.
Interesting Jeff, but I think we warrant more serious thought than that, because of our capability to affect things on a global level. That affects them, as well.
Perhaps you are right, although if they exist in a plane that is different than ours, and only "cross through" our plane of existence, like a bird flying through a house and then back out again, perhaps our presence is but a fleeting thought in their existence.
On the other hand, if they exist in the same time, space & dimension(s) as we do, then I would agree, we would warrant closer scrutiny because we have become dangerous on a much larger scale.
Still, it is an intriguing idea and I hope to read more comments.

Seen, and then they disappear. Here now, flying out of sight the next moment. Still, you may be right, yet they sure seem to be unwilling to interact with us. Maybe that's for our own good.
That's true. I always assumed it was a speed thing. Maybe not. And maybe they're incapable of interacting with us. Advanced though they may be, I doubt they're perfect.

Currious - what kind of beings did the men on the ship see as the USO came out of the water. Do you think some of these crafts are actually ours? You hear a lot of things if you are a night person listing to coasttocoastam at night. LIke - there are reptillians living in inner earth. spooky.
And yes, I've often thought we are treated as we have treated the animals of this earth - makes sense. I wonder if there are some that eat us - ooooo. No more burgers for me.

I to saw the same program and thought the same thing. Then I saw anouther program a few nights later and came up with this. What if they are Atlantians. Atlantis was supposed to be full of super advanced things like airplanes. Look at how much stuff we have created in such a short period of time. If they had something that kept them safe while the island sank to the bottom of the sea then why couldn't they have made ships like the UFOs that so many have seen. I know it's pretty far out there but hey you can't prove that I'm wrong.
It's not so far out there. If they are native to Earth and have been here all along, Atlantis could have been one of many islands they were living on. The thing that's bugging me is why, considering how adept we are at communication, aren't they communicating with us?
Maybe they are but only the leaders of the nations and they are keeping it from us so that we don't crazy and start demolishing things like we tend to do.

Dutch, checked out the story and slide show. Wow! I think it's inevitable that these people will eventually become a part of modern society. They Should.
I think that's a delicate issue. Especially since many of them seem to be grown men. It could be a total culture shock if we were to try to integrate them into our world. Many of the luxuries we take for granted they have never even been exposed to.
But they are definitely in danger if their only weapons are those bows and arrows they seem to be holding in the photos.
I think they're probably a very happy people (did you see "10,000 BC"? - if that's the correct title, der!) but, it's bound to happen sooner or later.

This is an awesome hub! I'm super into theories about life on earth and our communications with extra-terrestrial beings throughout history (like in egypt etc) and all kinds of stuff like that.
I've never heard of anything like this though, how neat! It opens up a whole new world of possibility for alien life forms. And what an excellent point, life did start in the ocean and if these beings evolved sooner than we did they would be thousands of years ahead of us. The Atlantis theory is really cool too, I would even bet that's exactly what happened!

So, I just watched the videos you put up...
I think the most likely theory is the one about the aliens coming here for water. From what we can tell, we're the only planet in our solar system that has water (so it might be a scarce commodity throughout the universe)...and it is quite abundant on this rock of ours. So, it could be quite precious to the aliens.
Maybe we're just some kind of intergalactic gas station to them!!!
It's funny how we are only just beginning to harness the potential of water as a fuel (i.e. hydrogen cell cars). We must be so primitive to these guys!

After I watched those videos yesterday I got on this craze looking for stuff on YouTube about aliens etc and my room mate (from El Salvador) told me about this guy named Jaime Maussan, a UFO expert from Mexico that is basically at the forefront of UFO research in the entire world. Dude is hella smart, and he spoke at a conference in 2005 about UFO stuff. There's 10 parts to the video, and it's worth watching all 10! I'm not even kidding, he talks about the Mayan Calendar, extraterrestrial communications in Hebrew carved into mountains and all kinds of other stuff, with lots of video documenting these things. It all seemed really legit to me, and he's at a huge conference with like..scientists and stuff, presumably. It took a while to watch them all, but it was so worth it. I think I found my new calling! Oh, and the stuff about December 20, 2012, has anyone heard anything about that? Extraterrestrials have been communicating the importance of that date, via the Mayan calendar in crop circles etc, to human kind! And nobody is telling us about it! It's like some kind of crazy mystery! Here's the link, try to watch them all, they get progressively better.

Derrik, "aliens" is just what we, in our primitive ignorance, call them. If they are, indeed, Earth;s first inhabitants, they wouldn't be "aliens," would they? They'd be "brothers." But, no matter where in the galaxy they're from, we're all made of the same cosmic stuff.

I've held the opinion for years that UFO's aren't from outer space at all, rather from deep within the oceans, so this was a nice hub to see. Of course, I'm not gonna start going door to door with this theory, but it's fun to think about. Really cool hub, but honestly these "things" whatever they may be, freak me out, and ever since I was a child I got a real bad vibe from even thinking about UFO's. So I guess what I'm saying is that they are evil and need to be destroyed. Hopefully global warming will evaporate the world's oceans and we can begin the process of elimination.

Hey, great picture update! You look completely different from the last one. I have one like that. Taken days after the one I use here, and I look like a completely different person.
I took that in an airport in Cairo at 3 in the morning. I was exhausted and had 24 hours of flying ahead of me, so that explains my expression, but why was I taking pics of myself, you may ask? Sheer boredom, I suppose, with a dash of narcissism.
I'm laughing... the only pictures I have of me, and the one I use here, I took myself after I got my first camera phone... and out of "sheer boredom."
