Are You Financially Educated?
66
Where does all the money go? It's out there somewhere.
Most people never received a formal education in finances. In school, reading, writing and arithmetic were the subjects that were most important. In later years, whether or not you were computer savvy dictated.
Money was not something that was discussed. If you had it, you didn't because of you didn't want to make those who didn't jealous or even worse, lose it; so it wasn't talked about. If you didn't have it, you were looked down on or considered lower class, even though everything about you screamed something else. If you lived in the middle, life could go either way for you - no bragging because you didn't want to lose it, no aiming higher because you didn't want to lose your friends. But now more than ever, financial education (and the lack thereof) is important.
People today are in debt up to their eyeballs, are losing their homes and own storage spaces to house stuff and things they don't need. Prices are sky high for food, gas, cable, etc. When does the madness stop?
The madness stops today and begins with you. Each day we are bombarded with images of new and more. It's very easy to give into the temptation to acquire more things that we don't need. What we aren't told is that we are losing time because time is money. Time is the one thing that you can't get back. Wasted time is just that, wasted time.
When you purchase things on credit, you lose time. Time with your loved ones because you have to pay for those purchases. You lose your freedom; being tied to a job when you should be out enjoying your life and what life has to offer. You lose your health, stress from worry kills faster than 3 triple burgers with everything. Late nights worrying how you're going to pay, puts your body on overload.
How do you overcome? That's the difficult part. Overspending is a bad habit that needs to be broken, but it takes time. If you are a former smoker or you just started exercising, you understand that results will not come in the first day and may not even come in the first week.
These are new choices and a new lifestyle. The journey begins with education, healthy choices and a willingness to let go of old habits. Drop me a comment and let me know how it goes.
