WordPress Hosting
For those of you who want a blog that isn’t hosted on blogger, you need to look into Wordpress hosting! Wordpress is a blogging platform that allows you to create your own blog and put up any information that you want without having to worry about getting shut down for violating the terms of service of a blogging service.
You should be aware that there are two types of Wordpress though. One is a free blog that you can host at Wordpress.com (similar to blogger). The other is one that you personally own and operate through a web hosting company. The first is very limiting in many aspects.
If you are a serious blogger and are wanting a way to communicate with others in any manner that you wish, you will want to create a blog on your own domain. To do this, you will need to purchase your domain, purchase hosting (a lot of times, these come together), and get the Wordpress software (which is free). Here are some good tips that will help you in choosing your Wordpress hosting provider.
1. Setting up Wordpress on a domain is incredibly easy if you have chosen your web host wisely. A few web hosts have a program called Fantastico or SimpleScripts that allow you to easily install software in just a few clicks. If your web host doesn’t offer either of these services, then setting up Wordpress just became your worst nightmare!
2. A regular Wordpress installation will take up about 5mb of disk space. This is very little space and most web hosting companies should be providing you way more storage than that… Cause you will definitely need it.
If you are planning on hosting images, music, or videos on your Wordpress blog, you are going to need a lot more storage than the average joe who just adds content to their site. Look at about 100mb in storage space to allow you room to expand your blog in different ways.
3. If your blog is lucky and becomes one of the internet’s most popular blogs, you will start to get lots of visitors coming to read about your life. When this happens, your bandwidth will start getting bigger and bigger. Most hosting companies only allow a certain amount of bandwidth each month and if you exceed that, they charge you. Sometimes, they even shut down your site until your next month’s allowance kicks in.
In summary, you need to make sure you do your research before choosing a Wordpress hosting company. Make sure that you have great coverage from the first day you blog is online. Doing so will make your blogging experience much more enjoyable.
