Marriage to a Philippine Lady
Getting wed to a lady from Philippines is a great thing but is not always for everyone, usually the old story, a Philippines lady may be all things to a man, but not all Philippine girls can be all things to every single man, in other words, it is not a good idea to stereotype girls from the Philippines.
Quite often Philippine women are shoved into the same pigeon hole as many other ladies from the SE Asian countries, such as China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Thailand, South Korea.
The ladies from these countries, usually tend to have comprehensively different languages, completely differing religions, different cultures, and different ways of eating food (especially dried fish!!).
In that sense, if I am totally honest with you, I really should deter British guys from marrying Philippine ladies simply because they are 'Filipina', and perpetuated by the mythical notion that Filipina's are submissive , wonderful wives that do not answer back, and are great in the bedroom!
So I have a little test for the prospective husband to see if he knows anything about his potential future wife, culture, country and customs. There are no real fixed answers to these questions, but they may benefit you to see beyond the tunnel vision of love.
Questions:
1. Can you find the Philippines on an atlas?
2. Do you know what is the Philippine Capital?
3. Do you know who is the current President of the Philippines?
4. Do you know what are the main regions are of the Philippines?
5. Do you know what main religions are practiced in the Philippines?
6. Do you know the main languages spoken in the Philippines, and your potential wife's local dialogue?
7. Are you prepared to have kids, if so, are you prepared for many and mixed colour children?
8. Do you know why a number of Filipinos have Spanish names?
9. Are you tolerant of superstitions?
10. Are you prepared to provide 'Sustento' (alimony) for her family for education and expenses, if they require your help?
11. Do you know which eating implements are preferred? Chopsticks, fingers or cutlery.
12. Do you like fish products? Especially the smell of cooking dried fish! YUCK!
13. Do you expect your Philippine wife to be obedient and submissive after the marriage?
14. Do Filipinos bow when they meet each other?
15. What is the difference between Bisayan, Tagalog, Filipino, Cebuano, Ilongo?
16. Are you just getting married for sex? Be honest about this.
17. Are you wishing to marry a Philippine woman because you dislike British women?
18. What do you think the differences are between a Japanese woman, a Thai woman or a Philippine woman?
19. Are you tolerant of a lot of Bureaucracy or are do you not suffer fools gladly ?
20. Do you like hot climates with high humidity or hate them? Mosquito's? Poisonous spiders and snakes ?
21. Are you prepared for all the costs affected? At least one trip to the Philippines plus all the visa fees (UK currently over #1500)?
22. How long will you be prepared to wait to get her to the UK? It can be done in less than 6 months from initial contact, but usually a year, it depends on what mood the embassies are in and whether or not you supply the correct information. If they are already married, this can really take as long as 1-3 years to get an annulment (usually a few thousand in UK pounds). If they have kids and they wish to bring them, and the farther is on the birth certificate, this can cause additional delay and costs.
A very small minority of Asian girls are out to get money off you and nothing else. If a Filipina ever asks for cash before you have met, or within the first few months of knowing them, move on quickly, or you will find yourself with more problems than you can handle. You can tell a honest and true Filipina, they will NEVER ask for money.
Filipino UK is a free forum to help UK-Philippine relationships handle visa applications, immigration advice, save you refusals, helps you make new friends, and plenty more.
For UK residents you will either require a SPOUSE VISA or a FIANCEE VISA (Do not go for a Visitor Visa the majority are refused). For further information and for all visa documents and legal information please visit the UK Border Agency.
