Children pick up on things a lot quicker and easier than you might imagine. Usually, they pick up bad habits much easier than the good ones. Parents often blame bad habits on other children. Many parents think their children learn these bad behaviors from fellow classmates at school or friends in the neighborhood. The truth is, many times bad habits are learned at home. Here are some ways kids pick up bad habits at home.

Bad Behavior

Television

What kinds of programs do you allow your kids to watch at home on television? Do you even know what they are consuming with their eyes and ears? Today, many children have their own televisions (or monitors) in their bedrooms with a DVD player. Even if your child only has access to movies on DVD and no television channels, that doesn’t mean they are not susceptible to picking up bad habits from that.

Parental Conversations

Regardless of how young or old your kids are, they listen to your private conversations a lot more than you might think. Whether they are sitting in the same room with you and actively listening to your conversation, or if they are in the next room and overhear you talking on the telephone to a friend, they are constantly listening. Kids are perceptive and pick up on a lot of things these ways.

Undisciplined Behavior

Some bad behavior simply comes from the lack of discipline at home. Tired parents who have worked all day and just want a break tend to be more lenient on their children. Even though parents need a break now and then, caution should be followed to make sure your children aren’t getting by with things that can create bad habits at home. All it takes is a few slips here and there, then your kids turn into bad habit creatures.
