Are auctions the best place for motorhome sales

Here we will be talking about the pros and cons of purchasing a used motorhome in an auction as opposed to from a private seller.
You can find motorhomes on offer from private sellers in many places from newspaper classifieds to the ads in the specialized motorhome press and even on eBay. To find a police auction or a seized auction however is not that easy. These auctions don't tend to advertise and it can be quite trick to find out about them.
If you are planning to buy from a private seller you will find that they are more than willing to let you take it for a short test drive and to answer any questions you might have about the history of their vehicle. You can not do any of this at an auction.
The only real benefit that the police auctions or seized auctions have over a private sale is the end price. If you are lucky you can get a motorhome in great condition for a mere fraction of the price you would pay to a private seller for the same vehicle.
You need to know what you are doing to be able to bid with confidence at an auction. You need to know a lot about motorhomes and you should know how to value the type of vehicle you are looking for. The words 'police auction' can be misleading. You can still get ripped off and due diligence is still demanded when checking over all vehicles.
Having said this, most of the vehicles in the police auctions or the seized auctions are not there because the owner has grown out of it or is changing it for a newer model. The vehicles have been repossessed or confiscated and as such are normally in fairly good condition still.
