yes they are, depending on the type you choose cause most of them are really hard to take care of.

I would recommend the teddy bear hamster or the dwarf hamster. because they are much more smarter (no offense other hamster's) and are pretty easy to take care of.

all the other hamster's are just more had work. And get them when they are baby's cause you can teach them early so they grow into it when they get big.

Last but not least breeding, if plan to get a dwarf hamster and you want to breed them get them in pairs also the teddy bear, cause if you buy them separate they won't get along in the cage. Better you get them in pairs or you just leave them separate, and when you get the baby's you can sell them back to the store where you bought them.
