Are there any products left that do NOT contain corn syrup?
75I'm intrigued as I answer this request for a hub, are there any products left that do not contain corn syrup? Indeed, corn syrup, especially high fructose corn syrup is something that I have worked on removing from my own diet. Doing so is no easy task, as you will find as you read the product ingedients of various food items, high fructose corn syrup is often present. You can find high fructose corn syrup in breads, cereal, crackers, ice cream, popsicles, granola bars, peanut butter, tomato sauce and the list goes on. Often times, you think you are indulging in a super healthy treat such as a granola bar, but it is in fact laden with high fructose corn syrup. The key is to seek out items that a made from the most pure ingredients possible.
For example, I do not completely deny myself of ice cream but I now have new favorites and guess what? They taste better too.
Although it is a bit more pricey than many, one of my favorite ice creams for eliminating corn syrup is the Haagen-Dazs brand. The ingredient for the strawberry ice cream are: cream, skim milk, strawberries, sugar and egg yolks. That is it.
Now it is certainly not low fat, at 16g fat per serving, but writing on low fat treats is for another day, another article. I was pleased with this brand for its natural ingredients, similar to if you were to make homemade ice cream for yourself. You might often find that a frequent trend is that all natural is difficult to find unless you make it yourself.
A basic rule of thumb, is that the fewer the ingredients on the ingredients list, the better.
Some other product recommendations that I have for you, in your quest to avoid high fructose corn syrup are:
1. Newman's Own or Smuckers all natural peanut butter. Peanut butter ingredients should be peanuts and salt or peanut only.
2. Ragu 100% natural pasta sauce.
3. Quaker whole grain rolled oats
4. Pepperidge farm whole grain honey oat bread
5. Red Oval Stoned Wheat Thins
I'm a proponent of eating the fruit instead of drinking juice, to increase fiber uptake and decrease sugar intake, but if you find it difficult to give up juice, I recommend:
6. Tropicana Pure Premium orange juice
Additionally, there is good news on the front, when it comes to eating out. Many restaurants are trying to improve products for becoming healthier.
For example, Pizza Hut recently announced that more natural ingredients will be used for making the pizzas and the restaurant will no longer use high fructose corn syrup in the tomato sauce.
As a final note, it is difficult to completely avoid processed foods and foods with ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup if the majority of your diet comes from pre-prepared foods. It is best to balance boxed, prepared foods that you eat with fresh vegetables, fruits, protein, unsaturated fat, and carbohydrate sources. Please refer to my various hubs on how to prepare meat and fish dishes in natural ways. Additionally, I'll soon be writing a hub about homemade, fresh baked bread. Be sure to watch out for it.

Thanks a lot KCC Big Country. I think it was a great request for you to post. I was glad to answer it. I'm going to try answering more requests- see what people are interested in reading about. -Journey*
beats me why anyone would put the stuff in pizza in the first place!
I agree. It's a small but very healthy change to have high fructose corn syrup free tomato sauce on the pizza.

Thank you for answering my hub request! My husband is from England and has been watching his intake of high fructose corn syrup and MSG for years. He is shocked at the number of foods we have here in America that are laden with both. Things you wouldn't dream of having it have it. I agree that you have to search for the ones that don't and may have to pay a bit more for them, but you will enjoy them more and your body will love you for it. I look forward to your future hubs.
