Our Children Are Dying And I Know Why
49GONE TO SOON
Suicide in America
There was a time when we use to hear about teen suicide and only in certain ethnic backgrounds, now all races, rich and poor are giving up on life. What are we doing wrong as a society, community, church and schools? It really makes me sad when I hear a 10 year old deciding life is not worth living anymore.
Thinking back when I was a kid, my mother was not the greatest communicator and there was no father, all I had was the church, school and my siblings. There where times when I felt like know one loved or even cared for me, but there was always a mother in the church that would take me under her wings. Maybe, we need to get more involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, our community, our schools. Let us start taking our children back under our wings!!!!!!!!
If it was not for so many people in my church asking me if I needed to talk about anything and that it would not go any further than the person asking the question. That made me feel secure, trusting, safe, loved! Our children is missing that.
My mother did not make me feel safe and all the other things the ladies in the church made me feel. I felt my mother hated me for some reason, there where times I asked the question, Why am I here on the earth? We where poor, never received any positive attention from my mother, there was no father in the home. When I would come home from school, she would say, change those clothes, do your chores and get in that room and stay until I call you out to eat and once you finish wash those dishes then get ready for bed.....this was every day! My only outlet wash church, so no I enjoyed going whenever the doors opened.
My 4th grade teacher, Ms. Henderson also took me under her wings, I'm 46 and it still brings tears to my eyes when I think about how much she loved me. We grew up in a small town in Alabama, very few blacks, Ms. Henderson did not care what color I was, she loved me unconditionally (like your parents should). I often wish there was some way to locate her, the internet has not helped me so far. If we had more ladies in the church and teachers like Ms. Henderson, the percentage of teen suicide would not be so high.
Our children are crying for help in silence, because know one is listening. Let us all as a nation, take our children back under our wings.
Remember......it takes a village!
