Are you living for Jesus or just for yourself?

This question came up. Am I living for Jesus? My first reaction was an offended yes. Then I thought about it. On a deeper level, was I?

Jesus hung out with all of the despised of society. I was avoiding them. Jesus saved the life of an adulteress. I judged and condemned any I met. Jesus said, "Come follow me." I was saying, "Come follow my church." Jesus knew the scriptures well enough to quote any verse at a moments notice. I asked others to look things up for me. Jesus got angry and threw out the money changers for the disrespect they were showing God. I got angry when people disrespected my opinion. Was I living for Jesus? Or was I living for myself? Even though I claimed to be living for Jesus the true answer was myself.

All of us who claim to be followers of Christ must take a step back and be honest with ourselves. We are so quick to judge others, yet we justify our own transgressions. What was it that Jesus said about getting the beam out of our own eye before trying to get the mote out of our neighbors eye? I had a lot of work to do and I am nowhere near finished. But as I learn more what it is to be like Christ the better my life gets for myself and for those around me.

It all goes back to that question. Are you living for Jesus? Is your entire life centered around letting His glory shine through you? Or are you trying to shine your own glory and bring the attention to yourself?

If Jesus is in us all then how can we not be doinghis work......Each person we see, talk, to, coorespond with over electronic media is touching them and then coming back to us and within each of us is that Jesus. We are not perfect here, but we are in our souls. To do the work of Jesus is to be ourselves. If Jesus is within us then bringing attention to ourselves is giving the glory to Jesus because we love and give unto others and therefore we just need to love one another and go by his rule that was put over even the Ten Commandments---Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Thanks for the hub!

A parting verse:

Psalm 103By David. Bless, O my soul, Jehovah, And all my inward parts -- His Holy Name. Bless, O my soul, Jehovah, And forget not all His benefits, Who is forgiving all thine iniquities, Who is healing all thy diseases, Who is redeeming from destruction thy life, Who is crowning thee -- kindness and mercies, Who is satisfying with good thy desire, Renew itself as an eagle doth thy youth. Jehovah is doing righteousness and judgments For all the oppressed. He maketh known His ways to Moses, To the sons of Israel His acts. Merciful and gracious [is] Jehovah, Slow to anger, and abundant in mercy. Not for ever doth He strive, Nor to the age doth He watch. Not according to our sins hath He done to us, Nor according to our iniquities Hath He conferred benefits upon us. For, as the height of the heavens [is] above the earth, His kindness hath been ighty over those fearing Him. As the distance of east from west He hath put far from us our transgressions. As a father hath mercy on sons, Jehovah hath mercy on those fearing Him. For He hath known our frame, Remembering that we [are] dust. Mortal man! as grass [are] his days, As a flower of the field so he flourisheth; For a wind hath passed over it, and it is not, And its place doth not discern it any more. And the kindness of Jehovah [Is] from age even unto age on those fearing Him, And His righteousness to sons' sons, To those keeping His covenant, And to those remembering His precepts to do them. Jehovah in the heavens Hath established His throne, And His kingdom over all hath ruled. Bless Jehovah, ye His messengers, Mighty in power -- doing His word, To hearken to the voice of His Word. Bless Jehovah, all ye His hosts, His ministers -- doing His pleasure. Bless Jehovah, all ye His works, In all places of His dominion. Bless, O my soul, Jehovah!

Honestly,no,not completely.I feel ashamed to even answer this question after all Jesus has done for me.I am still growing & as many years as I have been saved, you would think I should be on meat instead of just milk, but at times,a lot of times I fall short & get back on just milk(ME)......Thank you for this hub,a real eye opener.May our God continue to bless you.
