Thank you for visiting my hub on the topic of Arizona Maternity Insurance.  Having a baby should be a very happy time in people's lives, but ends up being a source of turmoil because of stress and anxiety over the amount of coverage or lack of coverage you have.  My objective on this hub is to point you to my favorite plans for maternity coverage and discuss what is available to you if you find out you are pregnant and you don't have coverage.

In today's world, this question is being brought up more and more.  The reasons for not having maternity insurance can be as simple as that they cannot afford it, or they thought that their current health plan included maternity coverage.  Unfortunately, most individual plans do not cover pregnancies.  So if you are in this situation what can you do?

1)  Investigate "Cash Pay" options.  When you find out that you are pregnant, call your local OBGYN's offices and find out what their "cash payment" plans cost.  Usually you can save a lot of money by paying for everything up front with the doctor.  Also, hospitals have cash pay options as well.  All you need to do is call the billing department of your local hospital to receive this information.

2) If the reason is that you cannot afford health insurance you may look into state facilitated programs like AHCCCS (pronounced Access).  You may visit them on the web at: http://www.azahcccs.gov

3)Review discount plans or advocasy groups.  Discount plans are similar to insurance in that they use a network of doctors that agree to pay a fixed or negotiated fee for services.  This can usualy save you quite a lot of money compared to the retail cost for a pregnancy.  There are a variety of fantastic plans available.  To learn more just perform a google search for medical discount plans.  An advocasy group is not the same as a discount plan although because they are an association they probably do have discounts for things like labwork.  A good plan to review would be Maternity Advantage.
