Make Your Own Aromatherapy Bath

With aromatherapy bath recipes, you can make your own bath product and know exactly what is in it. You just need to know a few aromatherapy bath basics:

  • Use only non-irritating essential oils in the bath.
  • If in doubt about any essential oil, first spot test it on your skin.
  • Blending essential oils with carrier oil or milk before adding to the bath will help the oils disperse better in water.
  • If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, consult a professional healthcare practitioner.

This hub suggests essential oil bath recipes for various situations and includes bath melt, bath salt, and bubble bath recipes. For other aromatherapy recipes and information, download my free aromatherapy ebook.

Aromatherapy Melts, Salts, and Bubbles

Fun ways to enjoy an aromatherapy bath.

Bath Melt Recipe

2 tablespoons almond oil
1/4 cup cocoa butter
10-20 drops essential oil (lavender, clary sage, or chamomile)
4 oz. jar
candy or soap molds
tissue paper (optional)

  1. Put cocoa butter in a glass measuring cup. Place measuring cup in a frying pan with one inch of hot water (not boiling) in it. Turn burner on low.
  2. Use a popsicle stick to stir every couple minutes until cocoa butter is just melted, 5-10 minutes. Add almond oil and stir. Turn off burner and remove measuring cup from frying pan.
  3. Let mixture cool slightly, then add essential oils.
  4. Put the soap or candy molds on a cutting board or cookie sheet. Carefully pour the mixture into the molds. Lift cookie sheet/cutting board with molds (prevents spilling) and put it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes or until bath melts have solidified. Do not let freeze or they will crack.
  5. Remove solidified melts from freezer, and pop the melts out of the mold. Optional: wrap each bath melt in tissue paper before putting them into the jar.

How to use: Place one or two (depends on how strong an aroma you want) bath melts in a hot bath and enjoy!
