Essential oil can be used as first aid in bruises, cold sores, sprains, bruns and scalds, sun burn, insect bites and stings. They can also be used for relaxing.
Aromatherapy can help in some common conditions, working as a first aid.
a. Bruises: Add 2 drops of camomile and 2 drops of lavender in icy water. Apply and compress. If there is a swelling, apply one drop of lavender and two drops of camomile in 5 ml of olive oil.
b. Cold sores: As soon as eruption is suspected apply one drop of tea tree or geranium with a cotton bud. Also massage the glands under the jaw line with the blend of five drops of lavender and six drops of tea tree.
c. Burns and scald: Immediately run cold water on the burn area. Apply two drops of lavender to the area and repeat four times a day.
d. Insect bites: Bee sting- Gently remove the sting with a tweezer and apply one drop of lavender on the area once every hour. To relieve itching and inflammation bathe area with warm water and two drops of camomile.
Use as insect repellent- citronella, eucalyptus, lemon grass ,sweet basil, etc.
e. Sprains: To reduce inflammation and pain, apply three drops of camomile and three drops of lavender in a bowl of cold water. Then wrap the compress and ice pack around the affected joint.
f. Sun burn: Add five drops of camomile and five drops of lavender to a cool bath. Apply and compress.
g. Jet lag: Use two drops of germanium, four drops orange, four drops rosemary in your bath. Use two drops of rosemary on a tissue and inhale at regular interval.
