Saturday, September 26th Vitali Klitschko fought Cristobal Arreola in a much anticipated boxing match. Klitschko came in strong and was able to stop Arreola from achieving his first heavy weight title win. Arreola came out as the crowd favorite, however Klitschko's performance was one of his best.
It seemed through most of the rounds that the fight was pretty well one sided and Klitschko was the leader on the score cards. Punch to punch, Klitschko overshadowed Arreola. Klitschko threw 802 punches and landed 301 while Arreola was only able to land 86 of 331 of his. The trainer for Arreola stopped the fight and would not let his fighter enter the 11th round. Trainer Henry Ramirez was quoted as saying "He was taking too much punishment. When I told him I was going to stop the fight he was irate."
During the ending interviews, Klitschko further cemented why he was the champion as he did in the fight by complementing his competitor. At one point during his after fight interview was quoted as saying "This was a hard fight, like I expected. I know I was hurting him a lot, but he has a great, great chin. He’s a tough fighter, but I worked the body.”
Arreola cried and sobbed heavily after his defeat. During his post fight interview he cussed and continued to cry. To many he came across as a sore looser. I'm sorry to everyone," he said. "I wanted to be champ. I know he was (foul language) me up, but I wanted to go all 12 rounds. He's a big (foul language) and he can hit. He's a smart fighter. He counteracted everything I had. He found a way to win. I found a way to lose. I'll be back."
