The wait is almost over...kinda of

In the last episode of the short lived series Arrested Development executive producer and narrator Ron Howard pitched an idea that maybe the show would have worked better as a movie. Now finally, in 2010 we are suppose to get another installment of the Bluth family but now on the big screen.

Recently actor Michael Cera (of Superbad, Juno, and Nick and Norah fame) signed on to reprise his role as George Michael. He was the last actor to hold out, which was stalling production of the filming. But now Michael Hurwitz the writer and director film, whom demanded 100% participation from the cast, can begin to get going.

So far no plot has been revealed, but Arrested Development (the movie) is highly anticipated because of the great cast of very memorable characters and witty first rate dialogue. It was amazing how each character in the series added such a layer of comedy that you can’t help but to love them and mock them at the same time.

If you never watched Arrested Development during its short run on Fox, it’s time to catch up. It was a great show which uniquely trusted the audience to know what's funny. And watching it on DVD you will see many familiar faces from the three seasons. The show had tons of guest stars in its short history such as: Charlize Theron, Dave Thomas, Justine Bateman, Scott Baio, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Liza Minnelli, Jeff Garlin, Amy Poehler, Ed Begley Jr., Carl Weathers, Henry Winkler and James Lipton.

If you were never fortunate enough to catch the series here is the basic premise; George Bluth Sr. (Jeffery Tambor) owner of The Bluth Company and patriarch of the Bluth family gets sent to prison for shading business dealing with a famous foreign dictator. And now his son Michael (Jason Bateman) must keep his family together in a Bluth Model House nonetheless. Michael is joined in the fake house by his son George Michael (Michael Cera),  Michael’s shallow sister Lindsay, her sexually confused husband Tobias Funke (whom marriage always seem to be on the rocks and is brilliantly played by David Cross), and their daughter rebellious and sarcastic Maeby Funke (Alia Shawkat). Also featured in the show is Michael’s unsympathetic and cold hearted mother Lucille (Jessica Walter), Michael’s older idiot magician brother Gob (Will Arnett), and Michael’s baby brother Buster (Tony Hale) a sheltered 35 year old man who still lives with his over bearing mother.

In the shows run it had three seasons, the first having 22 episodes, then 18, and finally 13. If you have never seen it I highly recommend renting or just buying the DVD.  The show was witty and edgy, it now has a great cult following since it has come back in syndication. I was truly disappointed when it came to an end, it was a gem.

We have a while to wait for the feature film, so now is a great time to get caught up or refresh your memory by watching the hysterical first three seasons and that way you will be prepared for what will be the most anticipated funny movie of 2010. Watch it and enjoy!
