Arthritis Osteoarthritis, Things You Should Be Concerned With

One of the most common types of arthritis is called osteoarthritis. There are a few signs and causes of arthritis osteoarthritis that you can look for that will help in determining if you have this condition. Arhtritis osteoarthritis is a disease that affects the joints in the body and causes swelling and pain in these joints. With this condition the cartilage located between the bones breaks down. The cartilage can be described as a shock absorber that prevents the bones from rubbing together and causing pain. Small parts of the cartilage can break off causing the joints to be inflamed.

Arhtritis osteoarthritis most commonly affects joints in the hips, knees, feet, spine, hand and fingers. However, it is possible to have this disease affect any joint in your body. Joints that have been injured or overused are more susceptible to this disease than others because they are weaker. The longer osteoarthritis attacks a joint the more damage it will do. Over time it can wear the cartilage away to nothing in which case you will experience a lot of pain. Research shows that as this condition progresses inflammation does occur even though it is considered to be a non-inflammatory disease.

The longer you suffer from this condition the more problems you will have. The cartilage can be completely worn away making it extremely difficult and painful for you to move the joints affected. The more your joints are damaged the harder it will become for you to even perform normal everyday tasks. The cause of osteoarthritis is not known, but your odds of getting this disease increases with age. Other things that increase your odds of having this disease include heredity, overworking your joints and obesity. Other signs that accompany this condition that you should be aware of include stiffness in the joints with pain and swelling.

Osteoarthritis will usually begin slowly and then more serious and painful symptoms will develop over a period of time. Some people will have bumps that come up around the affected joint, but this usually happens when the fingers, hands or feet are affected. You will find that it is very hard to perform simple task as this disease progresses. You need to know as soon as possible if you have osteoarthritis. Early detection can make a big difference. Therefore, if you have any of the signs mentioned above you should see your health care provider as soon as possible to receive arthrits care.
