Article Marketing Automation Which Actually Works!
80Using Article Marketing for Promoting Your Sites
There are two main approaches to article marketing. You can hand create quality unique articles and hand submit them to the best articles directories (best = credibility and good page rank). This is time-consuming but effective: and my experience is that articles published on ezinearticles.com will also get traffic - I nice bonus. For a great summary of using these high-class directories check out Jenny's hub linked to here:
Article Directories: Why?
What is Article Marketing ?
Article marketing is writing and distributing articles which include links back to the site or hub pages that you wish to promote .
Traditionally you submit articles to directories which publish your articles for free and other site owners use the directory's RSS feed to get copies of relevant content for their sites.
Many people think that article marketing will bring them more visitors: it will but not directly. Most directories will not send you a lot of traffic. What they do give you is a keyword anchored link back to your site. Its well-known SEO practice that more keyword anchored back links point to your site the better it will rank in search engine results.
The Problem :How to Submit to Many Article Directories
So for many people getting back links from article marketing its not about the number of visitors that click the links directly its about the number of links they get on different sites. So the plan is to submit to as many article directories as possible, and there are literally millions to choose from.
The problem is simple: time - it takes several minutes to submit to each directory, even after you have signed up and created an account. And every article should probably be a little bit different otherwise Google will discount the link - so that's some more time.
If you don't believe me this is a problem: you obviously haven't tried doing it yourself: I encourage you to go out and try it - you should never buy software without understanding what it does - and doing is the best way of understanding!
What is a KeyWord Anchored Link?
Simply it's the word's you use to link to your site with. If I want to send you to my Internet Marketing page for beginners page I could link it as click here or I could link it as Internet Marketing on HubPages. Both will work for the reader: but the first one will encourage search engines to rank me for "click here" - which is not quite what I want!
The Usual Solutions: And Their Issues
Now you are convinced that hand submitting to bulk directories is the most mind-blowingly boring activity in the universe you probably won't be surprised that you a lot of people are happy to help for a price.
There are a number of the products in the market: but they fall into two camps: a submission service and submission automation software. Both have their issues.
Submission Services:
I looked long and hard at buying a membership t o one of these. Unfortunately their free version is really, really bad so there is no real way to try before you buy and buying involved significant cash: $100's of dollars. These services use real peole to submit your articles for you so I think customer service is very important and it appears sadly lacking in the industry!
Article Directory Submission Software.
There is also software available which will submit articles to directories automatically: you fill in a few fields and push the button. Again there are issues with the customer service: its non-existant and this for a product which again costs $100's of dollars. I also found it was still taking a lot of time - the software was quite difficult to use, and a number of my article niches didn't fit cleanly into the fixed directory categories making automation difficult.
Directories come and go and change their interfaces : submission needs to be regularly updated but this doesn't seem to be the case in the product I short-listed.
A Better Solution: Article Marketing Automation
So I had issues with the accepted automation solutions and I did: well nothing. Then I saw a new product start being talked about: a service called Article Marketing Automation, released by the same company who developed the PLRPro site.
This product is different:they distribute your keyword-anchored articles to blogs not to article directories.
Some of you will just have had a light bulb moment so check out the details in my Article Marketing Automation review here.
For those of you who still here on top of the issues I had with the existing products and had some reservations about submitting to bulk article directories anyway.
- Most article directories are not focused on a single topic so the vast majority of directories which accept automated submissions are low quality in terms of content focus and Page Rank;
- Your links are only allowed in the bio at the bottom of the article - which in my opinion counts less than links near the top of the page in terms of search engines because so many people put all there spammy links at the bottom of the page or the footer to hide them; and
- The article is duplicated - which means that the search engines will discount the link a lot - also you are getting lots and lots of links using the same keyword anchor which is knon as "Google bombing" and again not good practice.
What Article Marketing Automation does is cunningly simple: they submit articles to blogs. The blogs are in general focused on a topic or niche: say travel or security systems. So your travel article becomes a blog post a on a blog which is all about: travel.
You can put up to three anchored links within the article, anywhere in the article, so this avoids the problem with having links only at the bottom.
Are the articles duplicated? They could be, but Article Marketing Automation includes a "spinner" which allows you to post variations of your article. If you choose this option you get presented with a random sentence from your article and you right from 1 to 10 variations of your sentence. I find if I write 3 variations for 6 or 7 sentences then I get about a 40% unique article - which is good enough for Google on all accounts. I hate spinning articles but this is as about as easy as it gets. You can also spin your keyword anchors: which you should do even if you don't spin the article.
Whose Blogs are the Articles Posted On?
Well some of them are mine! AMA has to levels of membership: free and paid. If you sign up with the free membership you can submit your own blogs - you then become the publisher half of the story - you are given suggested articles for your blogs (based on the search terms you want) and you publish them. I can track back some of the blogs that have published my articles and am universally impressed with their quality.
The free membership doesn't allow you to submit articles - but to entice you in they give you chance to submit 5 articles for free. This is the best way to try out the service. If you submit articles with links back to a blog you will get the trackbacks nad be able to see the type of site which as published your article.
My articles appear to being published 2/3 times a day: your mileage will vary on the topic's popoularity obviously.
My Disclaimer
If you sign up using my links on the my AMA review blog post I will be paid a commission. I am however a very, very happy user of this service which is why I am promoting it here. I do suggest that you sign up for the free version first and then if works for you upgrade to the paid version. No risk and you may just be impressed: I can assure you it takes an awful lot to impress me in Internet Marketing!

Google doesnt penalise duplicate content: it just ignores it. That's why is probably best to submit variations of your articles: which what article spinning is all about and why AMA includes a spinner as part of their service. It takes me about 20 minutes to submit an article which I have spun to the point that it is 40-50% unique. Nothing is sure with Google so this is just my opinion and in the future it may change!
Hi, Lissie! I used your link to get to that site, and searched every corner of it - I can't for the life of me find out how to get the free membership option. Every link I tried took me to a page that asks for $47.
Any suggestions?
This type of site is good - we belong to another one, very similar, called Traffic Kahuna. I can't imagine how anyone gets anywhere in internet marketing without using something like this.
I've tried everything from software such as article spinners and all sorts of other software and nothing has worked for me, but what I do now to increase my content writing is use Bob The Teachers ( I'm not sure if it's actually his!) mind mapping software, it's free, I've found with mind mapping title ideas and sentences of article content I can come up with variations of articles quickly and if I concentarte I can write at least 30 - 40 good articles a day.
But then you are right it is a time saver to find something so that it reduces the time taken, but I always feel cheated if I have to pay for something that I feel I could do if I apply the right amount of effort myself.
@ inspirpub Yes its quite well hidden - I have got it marked as the "free version of AMA" near the bottom of the hub - a text link - here it is as well but I am not sure if I am allowed to link direct on HP - lets see if I get reported :-)

I don't know traffic kahuna myself but I agree you can't do this yourself - unless you are prepared to get your kids doing it for you 24/7 LOL
@waynet - thanks for visiting - yeah I agree with you a bit but really got me excited about this product was the article distribution and the blog creatiion - it really did solve a whole lot of issues for me perfectly - Im still looking for the downside - havent found it yet!
Article submission services take a lot of the work out of building traffic and backlinks. I would strongly suggest using this service if you are serious about building blogs.
I really like the combo of blog building and article submission onto blogs - its unique as far as I know? Thanks for visiting increaseurmileage
Nicely explained Lissie. I'm very tempted to have a look at this - as soon as I'm free of my own lastest writing assignment which has a nasty deadline I have to meet!
Oh the joys of writing...
Grrrrr..... I understand that writiers are just trying to eke out a living but so much duplicate stuff (whether duplicate or "spun") is out there that it's the same tired old ideas cranking around in different guises, it's hard for a searcher to find anything unique and overall it dilutes the whole field. Just my two bits.
Sounds very interesting, Lissie.
Hot Dorkage - I'm not sure that Lissie's product is for writers as much as it is for marketers, although it sounds like it can help either. Personally, I would want to submit unique content since that's what I offer clients.
@honestway - I think you will have fun with it but yes get rid of the writing deadline first I know what they are like.
@hotdorkage - Shirley's right this is more with my marketing hat on than my writing hat on. But don't you ever pick up a newspaper and see the same story that you read in a different paper last week, see the same news item with different background graphics on different TV channels - that's syndication - and that's what I'm doing here.
Also my first ever website is full of excellent useful information: entirely original written by me about something I am an expert in. Do you think lots of people have found that website useful: no because they never found it! Its on page zillion of google LOL Now services like AMA give em a chance to resurrect it to a point where someone might actually find it and read it LOL
@Shirley - I do start with unique content: either my own or something I've paid to have written. Most people would start with PLR. My acceptance rate for my articles is 100% to date - I don't think that's coincidental LOL
Thanks for the comments everyone !
If you are looking to get your articles ranked, only submit to the top 10 article directories. The others are a waste of time. If you are looking for mass back links to your sites, post your article on as many directories as you can. The duplicate content scare is just that, a scare. "Big Brother" wants us to think that we are always being watched. Loved your disclaimer. Some of the most effective selling is done without "selling."
Hi PP - oops I just read the disclaimer and fixed the typos - I was getting tired by then! I agree with the top 10 article directories: actually I pretty much focus on goarticles ezinearticles and buzzel these days. The duplicate content thing is controversal I know - but what I do think matters is the context of the link - which is why a link from a blog is better than just an unfocussed directory.
My problem with selling is that I hate being sold to - its the fastest way to loose a sale with me is to push me - so I try to just explain my experience and why something works for me. I also think you should never sell what you don't use in IM!
Hi Lissie, we are newbies to the whole internet marketing scene and can see that there's tons to learn. I know that if I follow your hubs that I will get a lot of useful information from them. Thanks for the great work.
Your welcome ADD: - read everything and keep your credit card away from the internet until you start to understand :-)
I'm the same way, Lissie. I absolutely hate being 'sold' to. I've been around salesmen my whole life and I know when someone is 'selling' rather than 'talking'. Irks me to no end.
No doubt that you write unique content. You're a good writer and you write about topics you're familiar with. I imagine though, that this system could be helpful for those who are not talented wordsmiths.
Hey Guys, Marc here I am co owner of Article Marketing Automation.
We have had an extremely uptake of quality content and it seems to be that people just like to write better content in our system.
Though one of the big benefits of AMA is more the distribution of your articles and then consequently the fact that you get a link back to your site.
So Shirly I presume you are a writer and have a blog or some platform you write on, AMA would/could be used to increase your rankings and readership of that blog or writing platform.
Thanks
Marc
Hi Marc: thanks for visiting! Yes its a bit confusing for people new to internet marketing the concenpt of why you want to basically syndicate your article all over the place :-) I have been plesently surprised at the quality of the content on AMA: I have rejected articles but raraly because of their actual quality: usually because they aren't quite on-niche and more often because they aren't unique enough (30% is my minimum)
Sorry Shirley I missed your comment earlier: to be honest the amount of content I need to write just overwhelmes me and I prefer to use something like AMA and even outsourced writers for the topics I have no knowledge or intererest in! I am very pleased with the number of backlinks I am getting too.
Thanks Lissie,
Great stuff as always. Having recently ramped up my web marketing presence it is a hugeeeeeeee benefit to have Hubs like this posted to fill in the mental gaps.
Thanks again for sharing!
Thanks Jim: I am thinking about doing a few more: I like the combination of being able to help people and make a bit of cash on the side!
Lissie,
How are you able to check for uniqueness? (30% is my minimum.)
Thanks,
Bridget
Hi Bridget: when you get article for approval they display what % uniqueness it has from 0% up to > 100% - its a really handy feature!
Oh that's assuming that you haven't got approval set to automatic: you can't see the % once the article is published!
Hi Lissie here - just an update: I now have 2 sites ranking on the 1st /2nd page after being nowhere in google for ever - update on my blog here http://100sites-lissie.blogspot.com/2008/10/ama-af
Thanks for another interesting Hub. We have a website for which we write our own content - but as you said, we want people to read it, so need to attract people to the site. Since we have been increasing the number of links to the site, our viewer numbers have increase From your Hub, and the comments, I am not really sure if AMA is for us, but will be taking a look.
Its worth a look 2pats - sign up for the free trial you get the opportunity to submit a couple of articles as part of the trial -see how it goes. Sometimes its easier to try to see if it works for you: thats why I love products with free trials!
thanks, this hub have a lot of useful information. i have just stored it.
I had a problem with your link on this page - I do not know if others are having the same problem - thought you would want to know :)
Thanks trimar fixed now
Interesting. I'm just getting my feet wet with internet marketing. There is so much to learn. Thanks for sharing.

Great source of information Lissie. I have always wonder can i submit my articles to various article submission directories. If i do so, may google penalise me for content duplication? May you answer my doubt here. Thanks in advanced.
