63To Use or Publish?
When people ask me about article directories like the two we run - ArticleSnatch.com and BigFreeArticles.com - they are often at a turning point where they are curious if they should run their own directory or if they should continue to publish the articles that others have submitted to an article directory.
We have operated Articlesnatch since late 2005 and BigFreeArticles since May 2007. It has not been a smooth ride - but I have learned a lot in the process and I have made a lot of contacts with others as well. I have even met several people who live less than 25 miles from me who are authors on the site. So you still want to know - should you create your own directory or just keep on using the ones that are already in place.
To answer the question is really quite simple - what is your goal?
Is your goal to develop a resource that might take several hours a day of your time and have something that you are planning on working on for years to come? Or is your goal to just have an outlet to publish your articles as well as get content from others?
If you are just looking to get your content out there - then just use ArticleMarketer or Isnare and get the article out to thousands. Article Marketer gives the advantage of your articles getting stored in their collection so new publishers that join can choose to receive old articles. Isnare is great if you are looking to pay as you go, you can buy a few credits. Also with Isnare your email address does't get added to every article directory - so you will get less email. If you are just looking for content for your site - then perhaps you can use the articles that others have taken the time to write and include them on your site - just make sure you follow the publisher guidelines that are listed on every site. Each article directory has different guidelines, but most allow the use of a full article so long as you include any links in the resource box.

Yeah if you don't plan on building the directory for years and spending tons of time on it then it's probably not going to be worth creating.
The services you've mentioned work great and are a great way to reach thousands with content. If that's the goal, there's no reason to create your own directory.
