I have been conducting business online since 2001 but I wasn't always marketing. Well I was helping others market, as web designer and graphic designer I love creating web pages for clients and that kept me happy for about 4 years then I started getting jealous of the money my clients were making because I did a great job for them.

Over that period of time I learned a bit about internet marketing and search engine optimization strategies that would help my clients rise to the top of the search engines for their area of expertise. Well I thought it was time for me to start earning money while I was fishing, but I found quickly that finding that niche wasn't always as easy as others let on.

My clients already had their business going in the real world and most just wanted a presence on the internet. As I created more and more web pages I started learning and applying strategies that made their sites better and better, so I thought I would use the same strategies on a few domains I had purchased.

So what did I decide to take on for my first personal online business?? Internet marketing, was I in for a surprise. I spent months, and they added up to more than a year without making much of a profit. I would make sales here and there, but it was so sparse I am sure it was just someone stumbling into my site and feeling pity for me.

I decided to give article marketing a try and that was fine but very time consuming, so I decided to give private label rights articles a try and that just made me more frustrated. At least with my own articles they were unique but these PLR articles had hundreds of copies floating around the net.

My next step was to start modifying the articles to make them unique and that put me right back in the same place as writing articles myself. Then a client gave me a suggestion that might help and I listened and he was right. Was was his great advice...

If you don't use the right keyword phrases you end up finding things that just aren't what you were looking for. The key to successful article marketing is knowing what words to include in your articles so those information hungry surfers will find you and perhaphs even give you their money.
