Will Nanotubes Cause The Same Harm As Asbestos?
60Long Carbon Nanotube
Which is more dangerous abestos or nanotubes?
Much speculation has arisen after a recent study stated that nanotubes have similar affects on the body as asbestos. Many experts believe there is a direct correlation between the nanotubes and Asbestos. Which is more dangerous?
Asbestos a long fibrous substance was first used and was awed over due to its amazing properties to retard fire. Then and now asbestos had many widespread uses, although today only small traces can be found in materials. Asbestos was even found in crayons during a study done in 2000.
Asbestos is dangerous when disturbed. It gets caught in your airway and settles in to the cell walls that make up one's lungs. When this occurs it exponentially increases the chances of getting lung cancer, Mesothelioma or Asbestosis. Malignant Mesothelioma is a cancerous tumor of the lining and chest cavity or the abdomen. Mesothelioma is caused by long term asbestos exposure
Asbestos
Carbon nanotubes are long and fibrous and are highly regarded for their unique properties. Sound familiar? Carbon nanotubes have great electric and thermal connectivity. Carbon nanotubes will even be big in the field of biotechnology. Recent studies conducted on labratory mice showed cancerous tumors, mesothelioma and asbestosis like progressions when they were injected with carbon nanotube materials. The one thing we don't know as of yet is if carbon nanotubes can be disturbed in a way that they become airborne and cause harm. Nanotubes and Asbestos have way to many similarities. As humans we seem to quickly forget the past. History often repeats itself and we should learn from it, not re-live it. Only time will tell us if nanotubes will cause more harm thanĀ asbestos.
