Asian Girls - Notes from the Field

About Me

I certainly don’t claim to be an expert with Asian women, but I do have a decent amount of experience with Asian women.  I’ve dated a number of Asian women and I have quite a few friends that are either married to Asian women or are dating Asian women.

Culture

Asian culture is somewhat similar to American culture. There appears to be a strange hierarchy in Asian culture that stems from the darkness of an Asian’s skin. This is the hierarchy, as I understand it:

1. Japanese

2. Chinese

3. Everyone else (Koreans are a close for third, but there is no real distinction I’m aware of, other than most Japanese and Chinese think of Filipinos as dirty or towards the bottom of the list)

This hierarchy is, essentially, based on skin color. This is why Japanese and Chinese typically avoid being out in the sun, yet Filipinos don’t mind the sun as much.

All Asian women appear to value family and friends, but in my experience, the Japanese and Chinese are most pretentious and most concerned with “status”. Thai, Vietnamese, and Filipino women seem to be most down to earth. Filipino women (also known as Filipina) seen to care least about status. I figure this is because there is a Spanish mix to the Filipinos.

Asian women are also typically on the hook to take care of their parents when their parents grow older. If you plan to get seriously involved with an Asian that hasn’t been Americanized, be prepared for the parents to move in with you at some point. It is considered an insult in Asian culture to send the parents to an old persons home or retirement community, despite how many activities it may have or how luxurious it may be.

Square footage seems to be a huge deal with Japanese and Chinese. The first question asked about any house is how many square feet it is. The larger the house, the more impressive and better the status you have.

Honda Accord - can't go wrong

Cars

Asians only like Asian cars. In my experience, Honda ranks at the top. If you drive a Honda, you’re a step ahead of the game. Toyota is cool too. Kia (Korean) doesn’t count for some reason...perhaps the hierarchy.

McDonald's French Fries

Tom Ka Soup

Food

All Asian girls are obsessed with food. Most Asian women only like Asian food. The exception seems to be McDonald’s French fries and chicken fingers. It seems most Asian women like chicken wings also. If you decide to date an Asian woman, you better like Asian food….and, be prepared to buy a rice maker. I already had a nice rice cooker, so I had that part covered, plus Vietnamese, sushi, and Thai are my favorite foods anyway.

Most Asian women can cook well. In my experience, Filipinos like to cook the most and love to bring copious amounts of food to parties.

Know what coconut milk is…it is not drinkable milk, but a milk used to cook with and make dishes, such as Tom Ka soup (a Thai soup).

Numbers

Asian’s are obsessed with numbers, especially the Chinese. They refer to it as numerology, but it’s really just superstition. The Chinese are especially obsessed with the number 8, pronounced “fa”. They are so obsessed as to avoid going outside their house on certain numbered days. If the date is ever 8 something or a combination of 8s, they believe immense prosperity will come their way.

Fish

Ah, the “treasure of the sea”…Asian’s love fish and if you don’t like fish, you better learn to like it.  The Chinese and Japanese like fish the most and believe it to be “prosperous”.  Get used to sushi and California roles don't count!  Filipinos seem to take or leave fish.

Louis Vuitton

Clothes

Asian women are obsessed with clothes and brand names. If you date an Asian women be prepared to learn about Bebe and Louis Vuitton. Louis Vuitton makes purses that look somewhat ridiculous, but are very expensive.

Asian women seem to be genetically programmed to fill every open space in every closet they encounter. They have difficulty parting ways with clothes, as they feel connected to their clothing.

Jewelry

I haven’t figured out this one out exactly, other than Filipinos are obsessed with Gold.  I think this must be part of the Spanish in them.

Hair

All Asian girls are obsessed with their hair and will spend countless hours straightening it, drying it, combing it, etc. If you want to do well with Asian women, learn to compliment them on their hair. For instance, I learned a few Tagalog phrases to impress Filipinas. The one that always gets them is “maganda buhok mo”…this means “your hair is beautiful”. They love this.

Punctuality

In my experience if you are involved with an Asian and have a reservation for dinner and need to leave by 7pm, tell them you need to leave at 6pm.  This doesn’t even guarantee they will be ready.

Education

Japanese and Chinese women appear to value education the most.  They seem predisposed to marry a “doctor” or “lawyer”.

Alcohol

Be careful with alcohol and Asian woman. In my experience a few drinks is okay, but if an Asian women has more than a few drinks things will get crazy (not in a good way either). Be careful.

Music and Dance

All Asian’s love to dance and they love techno.  If you want to impress Asian women, learn to like and dance to techno.  Japanese and Chinese women, in their proper ways, also like classical.  They like classical primarily for appearances though it seems…to give off an aura or nobility.  When the lights go off and they want to party, the classical goes out the window and in comes the techno.

Zojirushi Rice Cooker

Nishiki Rice

Rice

Asian’s know their rice. You must learn it too. Buy and know how to use a rice cooker. I recommend a Zojirushi. I have one of these and it rocks. Also, don’t buy Uncle Bens – buy Nishiki. Learn to wash the rice as well. This means putting it in the rice cooker pan and rinsing it with water several times until the water is clear, rather than chalky white.

Jealousy

Most Asian women are extremely jealous. If you have an ex-wife or ex-girlfriend, be prepared to sever any ties. Relationships with past lovers will simply result in many fights and much frustration. Either severe the ties or don’t be with an Asian woman. Also, be prepared for “activity monitoring”. It is not uncommon for an Asian woman to go through your cell phone call list or contact list. If you have any suspicious names in your cell phone, remove them. Same thing applies to the computer…if you are ever on the computer, be prepared to explain exactly what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.

Top 5 Tips

1. Learn to like Asian food (yes, and use chopsticks).

2. Learn to like and appreciate techno (yes, have a few CDs. I recommend Paul Van Dyk)

3. Buy and know how to use a real rice cooker (I recommend a Zojirushi cooker and Nishiki rice).

4. Be patient, especially when you have to be somewhere on-time.

5. Don’t use the term “oriental” to describe a person. Typically, “oriental” is for an object, like an “oriental rug”. “Asian” is for a person or food…like “she’s Asian” or “let’s get some Asian food”.

Having had two oriental, whoops sorry Asian girlfriends in the past I enjoyed reading this, and got a laugh out of it, it's all true!  There's just something special about Asian women, love them, just wish they'd stop leaving me, lol, maybe these tips will help me hold on to number three when I find her.

And I never knew you were supposed to wash rice...

Yeah, dude..."asian", not "oriental"...Asian women are awesome, but there's a lot to learn! Yes, wash the freakin' rice. I learned this from a Filipina. I was, like, uh, what are you doing? She's like, uh, washing the rice...don't you know this? I was, like, oh yeah, of course, yet me help you with that!

Wow, that was very educational. Not that I'll be dating Asian women... or any women for that matter. It's nice to be in the know, though. Thanks.

"Asian" is for person or food. What's the difference?

Tom don't be daft. One is the person you want to be with, the other is something you enjoy putting in your mouth, rolling your tongue around, tasting, savoring,.... oh I see your point.

lol - this is very funny.

I agree with many of your points. I think you are off on the car one though. Cars are also a status symbol, and luxury cars like BMWs and Mercedes-Benz will win you a lot of points.

Also I think that punctuality, and jealousy, probably transcends racial boundaries :)

@aya - thanks for the comment. After I think about it, you're right with the car thing. A Honda though is still better than a Ford or a Chevy, right? That's essentially what I meant...:)

I agree with you about that punctuality and jealousy, although my experience is that Asians exacerbate these issues. Hmm...now that I think about, so do Spanish girls, German girls, and American girls...

kea, i'm sorry, my comment's gonna be long... i hope you don't mind.

coming from a Filipina :)

Gold - to the regular Filipina girl, yes, it's true. there's a level of scary obsession about this. but for the more educated and urban women who lives in the metro, silver or white gold is favored. women in my city knows that snatchers are quite attracted to gold. we don't want bleeding necks or ears so we don't risk wearing them. silver or white gold is almost the same with fake jewelry so criminals don't even bother.

Gold this also something most Filipino-Chinese women wear for prosperity and luck.

Rice - i've lived in Japan for some time and i've noticed a big difference. rice there has to be washed at least 5 times. you get best results, soak the rice in the same water you would be cooking it in for at least 30minutes prior to cooking. the regular rice you'd find in the Philippines, however, should only be washed 2-3 times. otherwise, it would get really dry.

Hair - Filipino women are obsessed with straight hair (not me, i had mine permed. hehehe). it has to be long and shiny. soft curls may come in as a trend every once in a while, but Filipinas like to stay on the safe side so they keep it straight.

i've learned something about wet hair though. in the Philippines, it's normal for anyone to leave their house and go to work with wet hair. we don't mind at all. but in Japan, i've learned that it's improper for a girl to leave her home with wet hair. it gives the impression that she just came out of a motel, doing god-knows-what. besides, most of the japanese shower at night, before they go to bed (especially in the winter). so they wake up and wash their face, not having to worry about drying their hair.

@crinkle - thanks for the comments. I never thought about gold not being worn due to theft in the cities! I guess that makes sense. Why does gold bring luck? Yeah, washing rice is a must! I didn't think Filpina could get a perm? I thought there was a code or something that the hair had to be straight and long.

Great info on the wet hair thing. I never even thought about that. I guess I've never seen an Asian girl leave the house (oh, uh, or motel :) ) with wet hair. I guess it is all about appearances of nobility!

crinkle profile image

crinkle  says:

you're welcome. :) i'm glad i could give my two cents' worth on this.

of course we could get a perm! :) we could even dye our hair, if we want to. restrictions normally apply only to students in gradeschool and highschool especially if they're in private schools, so they'd appear 'decent' enough for their standards. i guess that's the same thing with the rest of the world, right?

Filipinas are usually simple girls who like enhancing what we already have. and since most of us were born with straight, jet black hair, we tend to make the most out of it. (i'm an exception :D)

yup, nobility. i think Asians are known to care more about what other people, or the society in general think of them, than westerners.

I love my Ford Focus! But I think you are right, there is a general preference of Japanese brands over American brands. But is that truly an Asian-only thing? :) Maybe it is also like punctuality and jealousy.

kea profile image

kea  says:

@crinkle - Cool with the perm...but, what about the gold...why does it mean prosperity? It seems the opposite to me...buying gold jewelry will make you poorer and less prosperous! Yeah, nobility...I thought the Filipinos cared least about this though. The Chinese are ridiculously obsessed with this...in my opinion

@Aya - Ford Focus? That's kind of lame :) Yeah, it's truly an Asian thing...many American's prefer American made cars. I remember my Grandfather despising all foreign cars and telling me that the right thing to do was 'buy American'. I was like, gpa, American cars suck...Honda is better...he was, like 'Buy American' or you're a Communist. Well, I would buy American cars if I thought they were better.

hmm.. i don't exactly know. but they see it as a lucky color (yellow), just like the color red.

and if you have gold jewelry, you won't have to worry about fluctuating values of currencies of the world. it's like having an investment right inside your jewelry box.

kea profile image

kea  says:

@crinkle - thanks for the info...I didn't know the color yellow was considered good luck!  I know red is considered good luck (communist) in China, but never knew yellow was popular!  Yeah, believe me, for some strange reason, I understand why a colored piece of metal means something these days!  My investments are in the toilet.  Maybe I should melt my pennies and paint them gold!

Very interesting article you have written and it is true what you said mostly in the article.

As for the number 8, it is mere superstition. Christians do not believe in that. The pronounciation for 8 is "fa" or in Cantonese it is "Fart" (don't laugh). "Fart" means to increase as in yeast which rises or expands. Hence, they think it is auspicious in meaning.

There are basically two types of rice, the ordinary rice and the glutinous rice. The Chinese eat the ordinary rice every day whereas they use the glutinous rice for making different types of cake or glutinous rice for special occasions like distributing the rice mixed with meat after a baby is born one month old to relatives and friends. The Hokkien or Fuchien (dialect) Chinese use saffron (sort of yellow ginger to colour the rice.

The colour "yellow" is also auspicious in meaning. When you say business is "wong" (Cantonese), it shows that business is booming.

The points you mentioned are valid. Will you marry an Asian girl? Just wondering!

Hi Einron! Thanks for the info...I didn't know there was a disparity between Mandarin and Cantonese with the number 8.

I wondered about "sticky rice" - is that the same as glutinous rice?

I'm dating an Asian girl. As for marriage...hmm....is hell freezing over anytime soon :)

What a random Hub! The expert on Asian women through dating! I think that I always throw off any kind of stereotypical curve because I'm fully Asian biologically, but I was raised by a white couple. I certainly don't know anything about Loius Vuitton, and I don't do anything with my hair (you'd be able to tell), but I get the Asian glow and I have a Toyota :)

Glassvisage - thanks for the comment! I'll never be "an expert" - women are complicated, especially Asian women! What part of Asia are you biologically from? Don't worry, Louis Vuitton is a waste of money! Do you also listen to techno? I'm wondering if listening to techno is biological or environmental.

funny how other asian cultures think that filipinos are dirty... they have better teeth and better hygiene than the japanese (who for some reason always have wacked teeth), chinese (not unusual to see super oily hair with flakes) and koreans.
