Ask Angie - I don't fit in
60 Dear Angie,
I like who I am, but it seems like I never fit in anywhere--like nobody understands me. Everyone expects me to be something different than who I am, but noone is taking the time to understand the real me. What do I do?
Don't fit in
Dear don't fit in,
Real quick. Think about the top five extraordinary people you know. Okay, now think about this: Did those five people 'fit in'? If they did, you probably wouldn't remember them today. So, in many ways it's good to not 'fit in' and to stand out from the crowd.
But, I know it can be hard to feel like no one understands you. To be honest, there are days where I feel like no one understands me either. Stay true to yourself anyway, and know that your uniqueness makes you amazing.
P.S. If you're still in middle or high school, take heart. When I went to college, I found out that there were a lot of other people in the world--and it was easy to find friends that understood me better. Even if you 'stand out' in high school, you'll probably be better able to find your niche in college.
