Aslan, cats and the sign of Leo keep coming into my life

When I was child I went to a Llandaff Church in Wales school and had Christian assembly and was brought up with the idea of hymns and prayers to Jesus and God although none of it made much sense to me. As a child, not even knowing the term, I was an atheist although very spiritual.

This was to change when I came upon the CS Lewis Chronicles of Narnia books that awakened some understanding in me that I could relate to. I read and re-read all the series and have done so many times since. I am about to again.

If you asked me what are/were the most important books in my life, without any hesitation I would answer the Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis and also his "adult" Science-fiction books Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra. These books were my spiritual awakening in many ways.

They are all deeply spiritual books and are about a struggle between the forces of good and evil. In the children's series there are humans, talking beasts and other beings from myth and legend, some good and some evil.

Time and place are very much an illusion and the children in the books move from Britain as it was in their day to the magical world of Narnia at various times in its history where many years of its time have elapsed but not so on Earth.

Aslan is a Lion and obviously also represents God and Jesus. He is the creator of Narnia and also has to be killed and resurrected.

I was so impressed with the books by Lewis and the character of Aslan that my only son's second Christian name is Aslan.

In the children's books, a war is being fought between good and evil and one world has already been ruined by an evil witch. The talking beasts and other beings from human myth, as well as most of the children, are on the side of Aslan.

In the Science-fiction "adult" books evil is taken from Earth to Mars and Venus by a scientist, who wishes to conquer the universe and thinks nothing of destroying the alien cultures and beings he encounters. He embodies the Devil but is paralleled in the world today in the "conquest of space" that vast amounts are being spent on. In conspiracy theory and ufology it is believed that humans are not being allowed to take their war-making and other evils out to the other worlds.

In the children's Chronicles of Narnia the last book is aptly named The Last Battle. It has obvious parallels with the Biblical Armageddon and the very real war being fought out between the opposing sides on this world now.

I am very much a believer in synchronicity and watching for sign from the cosmos, signs from God, or clues to the bigger picture and your personal pathway in the never-ending jigsaw and story. Over the last few years I am increasingly getting cats, lions, the sign Leo and images of Aslan coming into my life. At present on a daily basis!

I have lived with cats since I came to Tenerife and the lady cat Tiggy is my closest companion. I have even had thoughts about wanting to be a cat in my next incarnation or to live in a world of cat-beings.

I recently published a hub about all the women friends I have who are born under the sign of Leo. I then discover that Jill, who is the second person who will be coming here to help me by looking after my cat while I go to visit my family later this autumn, is another born under the sign of the Lion.

I recently made a new friend on Facebook - the well-known singer-songwriter Dot Allison, and yes, she is yet another Leo. As an example of synchronicity Dot's album Room 71/2 (Arthoused) gets reviewed right next to my Welsh Wizard (DMMG) on page 46 of the September issue of Buzz magazine.

And here at hubpages there is Aslanlight!

Today, I got David Icke's latest newsletter and one of the images is a lion with the caption: "A Lion sleeps in the heart of every brave man" - Turkish proverb.

This is Great! The books by CS Lewis are so good for children. They portray the Christian life and you don't realize unless you know the Story. I also have a cat. He likes to act like the lion in my life!

I love the Narnia Chronicles and Lewis' Space Triligy. You've written an excellent write up on them and I'm sure than anyone who reads it who hasn't read them will want to. And those who have will want to read them again!

I'm currently deeply engrossed in 'The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant' by Stephen Donaldson. This year he's been given an honorary degree for them by a Scottish University. Good for him, he deserves it!

CS Lewis is one of my esteemed authors and i have watched the movie Narnia Chronicles, and read Mere Christianity many years back. I'm not into astrology, but i like my 'sign' Leo, which you referred to in this hub, quite tenderly. This is a very refreshing read in hubpages. Thanks!

Thank you for your posts, Aslanlight and IslandVoice! IslandVoice, I hadn't actually realised that you are yet another Leo that has come into my life recently!

I wonder what all these cats mean for you? The Narnia Chronicles are fabulous books I agree. I am not a Leo but am married to one. Does that count? I also have a very beautiful cat called Claude who is sitting up here on my desk beside me right now.

So what is it you are going to tell me then, CATherine?

I don't know I am afraid. It is always the problem I have - strange synchronistic things happen but how to interpret them?

Well, how about that you have entered the story here to support the point I am making and as further evidence for readers of Leos, cats and synchronicity in my life?

Great - can't think of a better way of looking at it!

I love the CS Lewis Chronicles of Narnia books the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe being my favourite, I spent hours as a young child wearing my mum's Beaverlamb coat trying to get through the back of our wardrobe into Narnia without any luck.

Well-- this is interesting to me and I am a lady Leo. I am fairly confident, but not really assertive. I do like cats.

In fact, I share the same birth date as Bert Lahr, the actor who portrayed the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of OZ. I always thought that was an ironic coincidence.

Very interesting observations and ideas in this hub. I will have to revisit.

Thank you for your posts, Catherine, Maggs224 and Rochelle!

That's very interesting about Bert Lahr - I didn't realise he was a Leo in reality as well as a famous lion of the movies!

I have always loved the story of: "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." I love cats as well, being they are my favorite animal next to dogs and horses. But, is anything wrong with me?..I'm not a Leo. Just wondering. Loved your hub and tribute to the C.S. Lewis stories. :)
