At home fitness training is convenient, allows for privacy and eliminates some costs that a gym membership would normally charge.

The problem is that is is very easy to fall off track and lose your motivation.

Once motivation is lost, it can be very difficult to gain it back again. The excuses of "I'll start Monday" begin and then when Monday arrives you push it back to the following monday and then the next thing you know, the monday to begin never arrives.

You need to make your workout be as much of a priority as possible. Here are a few quick tips to help you get motivated or to stay motivated.

  • Create a plan and write it down where you can see it. You can buy a white board that hangs up on the refrigerator, your bedroom or by the front door. Even the bathroom is a great place! Just hang it someplace where you can see it easily and where you are sure to see it everyday.

  • Join a community! If you are internet savvy or even log onto to check your emails once a day then this means you! You can join an online community that will help you keep track of your workouts and even schedule them. You can try WOWY.com. WOWY stands for Work Out With You. It's like a virtual gym. You log on as you are about to do your workout, set up which workout you are doing and click start workout. Then you are "virtually" working out with hundreds of other people at the same time. being a part of a community like this will help keep you motivated. other members may also invite you to join them for a workout on a specific date and time too so its like you have your own workout buddy!

Not only is WOWY great for working out with other people but you can see your progress of your workouts, measurements and weight loss.
  • If you find yourself starting to get bored with your workout then its time to intercept. What's making you bored? The workout isn't challenging? The music on your playlist is getting stale or you just want to get out of the house? Find the root of the problem and fix it at the early signs of boredom, not when its too late and you find you have skipped a few days of working out now. Change it immediately by purchasing new workout DVDs, new music, or take your workouts outdoors.
  • Get rid of distractions or put a cap on them. It's easy to get distracted by the phone, TV, drop in guests, books, magazines and the computer. If you struggle with these then take steps to avoid them until AFTER you have finished your workout. That means let the answering machine pick up the phone, make yourself a promise not to check your email or browse the internet until your workout is over and don't make plans to meet a friend for a play date, beach day or a dinner date until after your workout is done.

These tips should help with staying focused on your at home fitness training routine. Just be aware of those distractions and the beginning signs of boredom to keep yourself progressing!
