Christmas Holidays fun 2008/9 - Attacking my Boy-ness
55Attacking my Boy-Ness
Well the holidays have been almost a hibernation time for our family – with the hussle and bussle of the year…all Mum and Dad want to do these holidays is sleep and laze about the house!
The kids on the other hand are a whole different story. They loved their Christmas, although they had their poor old Mum worried – when Benny, a week before Christmas, nails Dad to the spot and says, “OK Dad, I want to know the TRUTH. Are YOU really Santa? Is there no Santa Claus?”
My heart in my mouth – I gave Dad the nod, and ran for cover – I couldn’t quite bear to have that discussion with my darling 8 year old. So Glen and Benny went outside and had a chat about the Spirit of Christmas, and how Mum and Dad ‘help’ Santa keep that spirit alive. I don’t know how confusing that conversation was – but Benny came in saying that he was now ‘in’ on the adult ‘secret’…and the younger ones hadn’t yet been admitted to the ‘club’.
So being me, I thought it was all dealt with…but no. Benny decided he wasn’t quite ready to know that stuff after all…and was still talking about Santa coming down the chimney like a true believer all through the Christmas season….confusing his mother completely – and his father looking like “What did I do?” in response to my accusing glances!
Katie (7) is still a true believer and Tim (at Christmas still 5, but now just turned 6) is of course in Santa-land.
After Christmas we have just celebrated Tim’s 6th birthday. Daddy was in tucking him and Katie into bed and Katie, who is on the Top Bunk, needed a remade bed – so Glen threw her duvet down on Tim’s bed.
Tim jumped up as if he had been bitten by a fatally poisonous animal – and had a fit about Katie’s lovely PINK duvet being on HIS bed. Glen didn’t quite understand, it seems, that pink is a total affront to Tim’s sensibilities - “DET vat OFF my Bed DADDY – You are attacking my Boy-Ness!” said Tim running away!
He is so quotable at the moment – coming up with different ways of seeing things all the time. He came downstairs yesterday saying that if Katie could be a princess, he could be a King-cess. Sigh. Where does he get it!
Katie has grown about another inch over the holidays it seems – and is now fitting into things that were way to big just a few months ago…time is flying so quickly!
And Benny’s favourite book is Ripley’s Believe it or Not! – He loves coming and showing me new facts – absurd or gross – that just hit the spot for an 8 year old.
I have been expanding my mind by doing abstract and decor art for fun. I have included some of my latest pictures to see what people think. These type of paintings are acrylic on canvas, and look good to complete a decor in the right colours, and can be made to order. I am thinking about selling them sometime...but haven't got up the nerve yet. Any feedback is welcome.
Well thanks Froggy for inspiriing me to write again – I watch for your new hubs every day and enjoy them a lot. And it has been a while now since we wrote. Our kids will hopefully enjoy these hubs in the future, and when they grow, they will see snapshots of their childhood – that I don’t have to scratch my head to remember! Don’t kids love hearing what it was like when they were “little”?!
