What is Autism?
Autism is a mental disorder. it is marked by extreme withdrawal. Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests. Other ASDs include Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (usually referred to as PDD-NOS). Experts estimate that three to six children out of every 1,000 will have autism. Males are four times more likely to have autism than females.
Natural Cures for Autism
Health for Autistic Children
With rises in the autism diagnosis, conventional programs straining, high costs of medications (which do not seem to cure and often are over-prescribed) has there been any movement towards exploring alternative therapies? If not, don't you think it is time to look in that direction...
Homeopathy has been proven successful in a number of cases where children present with the symptoms of autism. A book ‘The Impossible Cure' written by Amy Lansky, an ex-NASA research scientist, presents a personal account of how her child was cured and how this debilitating diagnosis can be treated successfully using non-conventional treatment, homeopathy in particular.
Not only does homeopathy treat the whole person - addressing physical, mental and emotional levels, it also individualizes the treatment for each child and for each family. During a one - two hour consultation, details are taken about specific symptoms, reactions child has to their environment and their ‘story'. Parents are heard in depth and given the time and space to explore, as well, their own issues in relation to their child's diagnosis.
The remedy or remedies chosen are natural, non-toxic, non-addictive and have no side effects. Remedies are also cost effective (especially in comparison to the usual treatment for autism) and usually do not have to be taken for long periods of time.
Children are seen monthly or every six weeks for follow up treatment and homeopaths are available for any developments in between visits. Treatment, can last from three months to more depending on the severity and/or remedy reaction - with follow ups being longer and longer apart as the patient improves in health.
Don't you think it is time that we start to truly deal with this problem?

Thumbs up for an excellent article, Melissa! Autism and related issues are so stressful and emotional for mothers, as well as frightening and confusing for the child. Thank you for bringing a message of HOPE, and one that has a track record of both effectiveness and affordability. Keep up the good work!
I so appreciate your perspective on such a difficult issue. I almost always turn first to non-traditional resources when faced with dis-ease - and have benefited greatly from homeopathy. We don't have to hit ourselves with a hammer - sometimes it's the subtle changes that make all the difference. The knee bone is connected to the thigh bone, etc. Treating the whole person as a system, and addressing ALL aspects of ones experiece seems like a sane approach to me!
Kudos, Mellissa, on bringing this important subject to the Hub readers and to the forefront for all parents. I've been involved in natural remedies for a variety of health conditions for years, and I'm certain that a holistic approach to Autism (and everything else!) is such a beneficial alternative for parents to investigate. I have a friend who is a holistic practitioner who is doing great research on the correlation of vaccines and autism... yet another thing for parents to take a close look at. I applaud you for your efforts in this area and look forward to more great articles from you. Thanks! p.s. great job including the video, Jenny McCarthy is a pioneer and she is using her celebrity in a positive manner... how refreshing!
Thank you for your support. It takes indepedent thinkers and adventurous parenting to move forward with these efforts.
Thanks for the great article--so often alternative remedies for dealing with autism are ignored. As the mom of 4 kids, one with autism, it is often frustrating because for a condition that is not yet understood, even by the medical community, it's hard for me to go along with treatments and theories that are unproven and largely a bunch of excuses for the fact that 'THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON". Parents know their kids. If I believed the docs I would have given up on my own son. At 3 they told me he would never potty train or be functional in society. Fine, my son trained at 4 years old, but he never had one accident after and trained in one day when he was ready. I can't say that about my other three "normal" kids. Maybe we need to rethink as a society what is "normal". Anything outside of the norm seems to be threatening, because it is not undertood. The doc's want us to follow along like sheep, but it's the blind leading the blind. I refuse: I'm the parent, and I have my eyes wide open.

Melissa great Hub, I really like the YouTube videos you have added. I salute you, also Jenny Macarthy and other Mothers that are fighting for literally the quality of their child's life. I am a mother that had to fight for my sons quality of life...and I did not want him labeled to get the help he needed. I saw what labeling a child can do later in their life, so I worked hard to keep that from happening. The Doctors I took my son to kept sending me home saying I was a worried Mom and that he would grow out of it. I, like Jenny new something was wrong. One thing that worked in my favor to keep the label off my son, was that they agreed something was wrong, but the Doctors could not say what it was. They put him in a program and worked with him since he was 18 months behind in his development at 3 years of age. As it ended up his turn around came when enlarged adenoids and tonsils were removed and he started to be able to hear what we were saying to him and the physical and speech therapy till he was able to go to school helped. Today he is grown and in the Military today! My daughter who works with the resource children in our schools thinks that he shows signs of autism or as-burger. He is a wonderful intelligent man today, but he does have problems with some of his social skills. Then again maybe he is just private and when we ask over three questions he thinks we are just being to nosy.
