Autism: Strategies for Parents and Teachers
64Solving the Autism Mystery
As an Autistic Support teacher for grades one through three in a suburban public school district, I find myself immersed in the mysteries and pure joy that comes with teaching this population of children. There has never been a definitive answer as to what causes Autism. Theories abound from mercury in vaccinations to other environmental concerns. One thing is certain- as diagnostic criteria becomes more widely known, more and more children are receiving a positive diagnosis (currently about 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with Autism).
Recent years have shown a renewed interest in Autism research, which has been backed by many celebrities, helping to get the word out about the importance of early intervention.
Through my website, I hope to share with you ideas, strategies, and lesson ideas from my classroom. Though the mystery of Autism is ever evolving, there are ways to reach these children and to help guide them out of the darkness. Thank you for visiting!
