The automotive industry is one of the largest indutries in the world. The industry involved the designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and sells the world's vehicles. In the year 2008 alone, it was proved that over 70 million vehicles has been sold through out the world. That was a massive numbers in an industry.

We can see the statistics in the year 2007. Over 72 million new automobiles were sold around the globe. Europe leads the way by selling 22.9 million. The industry was quite stagnant in Japan and North America, but on the other hand it grew strongly in South America and other part of Asia countries. There were a good sign of rapid growth in Russia, Brazil, India and China.

We can see that, the usage of vehicles in United States of America is huge. Around 250 million vehicles are in use in the United States. There were about 806 million cars and light trucks on the road in 2007; they burn over 260 billion gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel yearly.

In China and India, the number of the vehicles increase rapidly.

In 2008, with the increasing of the oil prices, the automotive industry, faced the difficulties in selling the vehicles and they also faced the hardship of maintaining the price of the vehicles as the raw materials price had also increased due to the oil price crisis.

Part from that, the automotive industry had a good competitor i.e the public transport service. Due to the increasing oil price, people tend not to drive as it would caused them a lot. Thus, public transport is an excellent choice for them. This give a big blow to the automotive industry as consumers re-evaluate their private vehicle usage.

We can see that, in the United States of America around fifty one light vehicle plants are projected to permanently close in the coming years. This thing had cuased the loss of another 200,000 jobs in the automotive industry. As a result, in 2009, China became the largest automobile market in the world. They had produced a lot of vehicles. In 2008 they have produced 9.4 million motor vehicles. That were huge numbers of vehicles that can be produced in a single year. What a tremendous development. China has become the wolrd number one in automotive industry and they had surpass United States of America and Japan.
