Autumn's Arrival

A poem for Autumn
Autumn’s Arrival By Rebecca Mallory 10/2/09
The sun set and night finally fell
And the momentous occasion had reached its climax
‘She’s at ten’ he said softly
‘She’s at ten!’ they all yelled and rushed in
While those left waiting were left to wait more
Some of us talked excitedly, clapping our hands
Others let out a sigh of relief, knowing the end was near
Still, others paced and could not keep still
One slept, alone on the floor
The grandpa with the furrowed brow could stand it no longer
He went quietly down the hall and listened at the door
A baby cried and he smiled with a father’s pride
The sister rushed in to announce the arrival
She was here and all went well
‘Hooray!’ we cried
Autumn has arrived
