Avila Beach Golf Course

The Avila Beach Golf Resort is a 6500 yard par 71 golf course that is tucked in the hills of Avila.  The club house offers views of the ocean and from the putting green you could reach the beach with a long drive, although the marshal is likely to remove you from the course if you attempt to "drive the bridge" as we call it.

The course can play a little slow on a summer afternoon, but play early in the mornings moves quickly.  Here are a few things to keep in mind if you play the course.  First, almost everything runs to the right on the front nine and it's easy to end up in the creek if you have any sort of a slice.  So, I try and keep my ball to the left especially on holes number 1, 5, and 9.  Hole number six is one of my favorite holes on the entire central coast.  The tee box sits elevated looking over the valley of the course, and a pond protects the front of the green.

The back nine is very flat compared to the front and more open.  The tenth hole takes a good poke to clear San Luis Creek.  You will often see young kids hunting for balls in the creek.

This is one of my favorite courses on the central coast.  It continues to improve every year, and the Avila Beach weather is superior in the summer to San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles and even Morro Bay for a cool refreshing round of golf.
