You want to lose weight? You are determined to go on a diet and have found a new weight loss program that sounds different from all the ones you tried before and that did not work? It tells why all the others did not work and while this one will be doing the job for you as it has for many other happy clients, the effective and fast diet with no pain and no deprivation.

Don’t worry, many of us have been though this, and there is nothing wrong with trying something different. Just keep in mind the potential pitfalls that may be lurking behind such promises and avoid them. And if the cost seems too high, look for another diet program with a different philosophy.

Make sure you don’t risk running into health problems and into the frustration of gaining all the weight you lost again plus some extra pounds for free. After all serious health problems may quickly be worse than a few pounds too much, so be careful to take health risks when dieting.

There are some fairly straightforward issues to consider when evaluating a weight loss pogram, which are based on common sense.

1. Use your Common Sense

Trust your common sense, that’s why you have it. If you come across a diet that sounds too weird for you to believe, comes up with arguments that do not appear logical or plausible then stay away from it. Don't do anything you don't feel good about. Rather go for a healthy weight loss diet than a fast diet you don't unerstand.

The same is true for weight loss programs which do not disclose their secrets and want to make you play some special price of30 $ or so to tell you the secret no ones knows about. Chances are good that you are not going to learn something new, or that you will be prompted to buy some expensive products because these will be the only ones to do the job for you. Don’t believe that nonsense, but trust your own common sense. People thinking they carry too much weight with them are a wonderful target group for small businesses. Don’t join that club to buy a free weight loss program for money!

2. Drink Enough Water

Without water we dehydrate, make sure that does not happen while you are on diet. Water has a lot of benefits: it will make you feel better, think better and it will make your skin look better. Water is cleansing your body from pollutants or toxins, which can act like poison in your body. If you are eating less more toxic substances have a chance to enter your blood vessels and kidneys causing unpleasant consequences. Remember that water can also help you loose weight. Often our craving for food is not hunger but thirst, craving for water – give your body what it really needs. If you feel you cannot swallow more water or feel too cold to drink water try unsweetened tea (green teas, herb teas).

3. Eat Enough Fibers

Fibers ensure that your digestion and bowels are working okay. Fibers absorb toxins which then can leave your body naturally. Fibers help prevent cancer, heart disease and other unpleasant diseases. They will support your diet by filling you up and removing feelings of hunger. You will need to drink water to digest fibers and use them to an optimum.

4. Don't Starve

If you are hungry and don’t eat, your body will program itself to the food scarcity script. And this means store all food you get, because food is scarce. It will store fat and not release it until it is absolutely necessary. This is one of the main reasons why we regain weight after a diet.

So, if you are hungry (and I am not talking about craving, that is different), do eat something. Good are water, tea, fruit, vegetable, fibers, because they contain fluid, fibers, vitamins and minerals your body needs without making you fat. Water plus fibers will take your hunger feeling away.

5. Get Enough Vitamins and Minerals

You want to loose fat but you do not want to deprive your body of nutrients that are essential to keep you going. This is a risk in all diets which require you to abandon certain foodstuff, like low-fat diets, carbohydrate diets or vegetarian diets staying off nutrients that have served as a vitamin or mineral supplier in the past. And the older you are and the more diets you already made in your life the more severe are the consequences of malnutrition.

Crucial vitamins and minerals that are most at risk of shortcoming during a diet are calcium, magnesium and vitamins E and D:

Calcium

The older we become the more calcium we need to keep our bones, muscles and teeth functioning as well as to strengthen hair and nails. If you don’t eat enough calcium you risk that your bones will become fragile over time. Calcium can be found in broccoli, cabbage, beans, dairy products.

Magnesium

Magnesium is essential for the functioning of your nerves, muscles, heart, kidneys and immune system. You find magnesium in nuts, vegetables and whole grains. Please consult with your doctor before taking supplements.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an essential anti-oxidant that helps you fight pollutants. It comes in fatty food like nuts, oils and seeds. Although these foods contain a high amount of fat, they are essential fats, so don’t abandon them completely. Please consult with your doctor before taking supplements.

Vitamin D

This one is easy to get with the sunshine. If you consider taking some nutritional supplements with Vitamin D please consult with your doctor first, because vitamin D can have toxic effects. Vitamin D regulates the amount of calcium in your blood, and thus helps to keep your bones as well as your immune and nervous systems healthy.

Wishful Thinking versus Common Sense

We would so much like to believe in quick fixes, fast diets or fast tracks to the ideal weight. Miracles usually happen through common sense effort and persistence rather than through wonder pills. Following the above diet tips plus eating fruit, vegetables, whole grain and essential fats adding a bit of exercise or just walking instead of taking the car or the elevator will do the job for you without further diet plans or cost for books and drugs. It is a combination of a free weight loss program and a healthy diet. Slower and healthy weight loss is more effective, … and more healthy of course. Go for the healthy diet rather than the fast diet, and if you feel you can’t, do heed above advice to avoid serious risks to your health.
