In Yoruba mythology Yemaya is mother goddess,patron deity of all women, especially pregnant women.Yemaya is mother of all saints. Her name is "YeYe emo eja " mother who's children are like the fish. This represennts the vastness of her motherhood. Yemaya is celebrated in Africa, Brazil ,Cuba, Haiti as well as many other countries, although the attention and honors bestowed upon her are much greater and magnificent in countries listed. Yemaya loves watermelon, sugarcane syrup, fried plantains, beautiful flowers, for her offerings.Her number is 7 and she is represented in the ocean as well as the moon. Yemaya absolutely and completely loves her son Chango, god of fire. Yemaya is synchronized with Virgin Mary and other catholic saints, depending on the country and origin. She is one of the most loved Orisha in the pantheon. In her human sons and daughters, she manifests as very loving and maternal . Most of her children usually do very well off in their lives, because Yemaya shares the treasures of the sea with them. Yemaya's children know how important it is to listen to their mother and work her goodwill to mankind in the ways she see fit.Absolutely no harm to children will be tolerated by her. Although discipline is a key factor in raising children who will respect you, asking for Yemaya to help with troubled children or issues with disrespect are not ignored by her, she always is a beautiful source of help and support for mothers and fathers in need.
