BUYING LEADS: Are your Leads DEADBEATS?
61Eliminating a Financial Burden
As a network marketer, are you struggling in your business, financially? Were you hoping that you would get your BIG break by buying leads? Only to find out there's a very small conversion rate or no conversion at all.
If so, I can certainly relate.
Do you follow the lead of your upline? Have you been told buying leads can be one of the best ways to generate qualified leads? Have you realized the expenditure of buying leads can be quite expensive? And have you even wondered, should you continue to buy leads? Last but not least, have you seen buying leads to more of a financial burden than a big break?
If this is TRUE, please continue to read and follow to my story.
As I began my journey in the network marketing industry, I did almost everything my upline told me do. I approached everyone I could possibly approach in all fashions. I did the advertising: such as buying car magnets, buying paper advertisements and even BUYING LEADS. I thought buying leads would be the best path, so I bought leads after leads. And I come to find that my leads just didn't pan out. Days passed... calling one lead after another. I basically found myself wasting time and being financially strain because the leads weren't converting.
I actually found my leads to be deadbeats. What about you? I have found there are actually many reasons behind deadbeat leads.
My Situation:
On a average, I found out my leads were looking more for job, rather than an opportunity to be their own boss. I also found out the leads were actually OLD LEADS. When I say old leads, I mean they were sold first to someone else, then the leads were sold to me as new leads. I even found out that my upline was behind the company servicing the leads. So guess who was making all the money, while I was being financially strain?
What is your Upline telling to you?
Have you ever wondered how some uplines make all the money?
I question that thought. Than, I began educating myself more about the industry, After my finding, I had a different perspective about the network marketing industry. I realized as a network marketer, I had to take control my business.
I even thought about all the conversations I had with my upline in regards to advertisement, financial freedom and leads. I remember listening and taking advise because I thought they had my best interest at heart. But, now I know I have to do things on my on accord. I realized I need to take control my pocket and do whats best for me.
You know it's really saddening to know someone would take advantage of another to this caliber.
As a network marketer today, I have found my niche in the network marketing industry and I'm running with it, because wasting my money isn't my goal. I'm not willing to travel down that path.
So as a network marketer to another network marketer, find your niche in marketing your business and run with it.

Buying leads seems like an act of desperation. Certain people in my upline did try it. I am happy I didn't follow their lead as all their efforts and money ended in very poor results. You are very right when you say we must find our own niche and be ourself. Market they way it works for us and not for our upline. Yes, take control! If it is going to be, it is up to me!
Great article Donna and soooo right. I`m so glad I found this new way forward in buicing an MLM biz. What you learn is just so exciting.

Good subject matter Donna. There are, I suspect , many marketers out there buying leads and there is also a lot of 'free' leads out there. Even if they are free they don't compare to a lead that found you out there on the internet somewhere and who contacted you first, already pre-sold on you.
I've been in offline sales for many years before turning my efforts to online sales. I've done the calling of leads and I can tell you from experience that it doesn't matter how good you are at working the phones. In network marketing, it's about being duplicatable. Most people will run the other way if you tell them you get most of your sales by direct phone contact. They have to be able to see themselves doing what you're doing and not feel any stress about it.

Donna,
I really enjoyed this article. It so reminded me of the all the wasted time and money spent on buying leads and advertising that created a "needy" attitude when contacting them in order to recover the money spent for the leads in the first place. I'm very happy those days are history. Thanks again
Charles,
Thank You.

Donna, when reading your Hub, I thought of the time I was buying leads. You are so right here and it is a shame to have an upline who would take advantage of you like that.
When I was searching for a leads company, I interviewed a few of them after getting my list down to the top 5 of over a hundred on the Internet. In the process of doing the interviews, one well know company even tried to set up a special deal for me if I used them because of the size of my downline.
I ended up going with a different company that also had an affiliate program attached to it. That way all of us could earn our leads for free. I never paid for a lead and many of my downline also reduced their cost to next to nothing as well.
But like you said here, even at $0 cost, most all were worth just that. Even people I know in the business who have paid top dollar for their leads did no better.
Thanks for posting this, it will save some people a lot of money going down that path.
Bob,
Thank you.

I do not think there is anyone in this industry who can not identify with your article! Well done!!
I've been tempted to buy leads, but its just a waste of time and money... after thinking about buying some leads, I just think of all the other avenues I can take to get leads for free...it may take me some time but at least I didn't have to come out of my pocket for practilly the same results. Great article.
Debbie & Mommie8,
Thank you.

Hi Donna,
First, let me say that this is a great article! It shows that buying leads is a waste of time and money. I did the lead purchasing for 6 months and tried to get some in my downline to do the same. I lasted much longer than they did. I guess I'm just more stubborn. Anyway, I got to thinking, this is NOT duplicatable. How many people are going to go through all that nonscence? It takes a lot of courage to continue doing those calls after being called some special names or being told off. Then you're supposed to continue doing it with a smile. Yeah, right.
Thanks so much for telling people about another way. One that is comfortable and duplicatable. It takes time and perserverance, but, hey, you could always go back to calling those leads.
With Donna as your guide, you can do this too. Give it a try.

Oh my GOSH girl you have NAILED this one on the wall. So well said.. and I can relate and relate... it is a shame leads are out there like that and sooooo much money has been wasted on them. I had 300,000 thousand at one time and got maybe a hand ful of "good" leads that wanted to go to work.... Arrrghhggg
The message must change !! Thank you for sharing it
