Do you remember the movie Mr. Mom?  It was a great comedy in 1983 with Michael Keaton and Teri Garr.  One of the many funny plot lines of the movie was the connection between one of Michael Keaton's sons and his wubby.  There wasn't anywhere that kid would go where that blanket wasn't.  To him, it was his best friend, and the idea of taking it away was horrifying.  At one point, the blanket gets wripped and Mr. Mom, seeing as he can't sew, decides to staple it back together.  Ahhh...yes.  The beginnings of men staying at home.

Another famous character who was always seen with his blanket was Linus from the Peanuts comics.  Any time you've ever seen Charlie Brown or Lucy, there would be Linus with his blanket.  

Why is this?  What is this deep connection with a blanket and children? 

A security blanket is any familiar object whose presence provides comfort or security to its owner, such as the literal blankets often favoured by small children.  

If you're like me, you had a wubby of your own.  I took mine around nearly everywhere.  I loved the feel of it.  I loved the smell of it.  And I loved the warmth and protection it would give me.  

As a child is growing and developing, these blankets can actually be a good idea!
