Following on the news of the baby born in the budget airline over the skies of Malaysia, you might want to know what is the name of the baby boy. Go on, give us a guess.

You are right! The mother named the child AirAsia! The full name in Chinese is Asia Liew Ya Hang. Not quite AirAsia in English but the Chinese name Ya Hang means Air Asia!

Celebrities' Offspring (updated 3 Oct 2009)

Wayne Rooney named his baby boy Kai, a most unusual name but then he is a world class soccer player. It seems famous people like to saddle their offsrping with unusual names just to be different or is that because they think they are rich and famous, they can do what they like, especially in naming their children with unusual names.

"Celebrities are renowned for suffering from a serious lapse of judgement when choosing names for their children. Maybe a few screws fall loose during the birth. Whatever the reason, strange baby names are a stubborn part of celebrity culture. Ranging from items of fruit to tongue twisters, names that rhyme and those that simply baffle, names that belong in a Disney film and appear far removed from the real world, celebrities have got it covered." Guardian

Let me pick a few from the wiki list:

Musician Frank Zappa gave his children unusual names, including Moon Unit Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan Zappa, Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen Zappa. Apple Martin, daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. Bluebell Madonna Halliwell, daughter of writer Sacha Gervasi and Spice Girl Geri Halliwell Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence, daughter of Michael Hutchence and Paula Yates. Legally adopted by Bob Geldof in 2008. Known as Tiger Hutchence to family and friends. Moxie CrimeFighter Jillette. Daughter of magician Penn Jillette Little Pixie Geldof, daughter of musician and activist Bob Geldof and Paula Yates. Known as Pixie Geldof.

According to book 'Bad Bay Name' there are records in the USA the existence of children named Post Office, Infinity Hubbard, Garage Empty, Emma Royd and Nice Carr.

Let me pick some from a huge list in wikipedia  :

What's in a Name?

Imagine having names like that! We would all wonder what stigma that name will burden the child as he is growing up. How his peers in school and at the playground might tease him. Sure, Asia Liew will get free flights for life from the Airline to any destinations the airline flies to in the future but is that fair compensation for the trauma from being called AirAsia?

Some psychologists think that being saddled with such a name cursed you for life; they scoured schools and mental health clinics, and concluded that children with funny names achieved lower grades and suffered more emotional disturbance.

However much of the weirdness of names are because the parents themselves are weird and social misfits. Some of the poor social and educational standings for these children with weird names are attributable to their parents are poor and uneducated!

Bless Your Children with Good Names

I am a believer that whatever we say or speak, we should bless and not curse. That is why giving your baby a good name is a blessing as each time you call him or her you are blessing him if the names given has meaning. For example Michael means 'who is like the Lord'. Every time someone calls me, they are reminding and blessing me that I am going to be like the Lord in character and that the Lord will enable be to achieve what is destined for me.

Find out the meaning of your name and get a blessing, daily as someone dear or close to you calls you by name. In the same way choose a meaningful name for your child. You will be blessing him for life. You are passing down to him the inheritance of a good name and good character.
