Board Games
With the quickly growing technology of today, board games are being forgotten about. Kids would rather sit down and play a video game, rather than sit with someone and play a good board game. Board games have been around for centuries and have been sufficient enjoyment until all these video games came along.
Not only are they just playing the video games on the television, they now have gameboys, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable's(PSP), and many other portable gaming devices that they can just go off in their room and play. Families need to come together. Board games give families a time to get together and enjoy the company of each other.
Some board games take skill, while some are merely a game of chance. Either way, they are entertaining and take eyes off of the television. Family nights are a great way to have a game night together and just be together. Some board games also can teach young children math and spelling. The following are a few some of the most popular board games.
Some games that take some amount of skill
1)Chess
2)Operation
3)Checkers
4)Scrabble
5)Boggle
6)Monopoly
7)Clue
8)Life
9)Risk
Some games of chance
1)Sorry
2)Battleship
3)Yahtzee
Monopoly for example, teaches kids about math by having to count their money. Having a child that needs some work on math should be the banker to really hone his/her math skills. If you are really looking for a board game that requires a lot of concentration and strategy, Chess is the best choice. Some other games that teach spelling and good vocabulary are Boggle and Scrabble. In these games, each player must be able to find words and spell correctly.
Board games can not only be fun to play they can be educational as well. Now granted, there are a few video games out there that may have some educational value to it, but for the most part video games are taking the minds of our youth and numbing them.
Also, many of them are violent and scary. That is not exactly the best way for a child to spend their time. There are also online board games that are at least better than the video games, but there is no social connection there. On a family night, everyone is together and spending quality time with each other. It is vital in the lives of our youth that they are not stuck to the television and the computer.
They must have some good and wholesome interaction with others. Family nights are also a great way to get kids comfortable and able to talk with their parents. When all the busy parents out there take the time to sit and play a video game with their children, the child feels special. So instead of letting your child sit and play on the television, sit down and pull out a board game.
