I have always lived a very quiet life. I’m one of those who find solitude very satisfying. All that changed two years ago when an officemate decided I needed to change my lifestyle.

I was so surprised to find her at my doorstep one Saturday afternoon. To be honest I was a bit irritated and angry too that she would dare encroach upon my privacy. I was already trying to figure out who from the HR department gave her my address. I vowed to myself, I would get to the bottom of it come Monday morning. Monday came and I was already imagining the flushed face of the culprit as I swiped my ID to open the door to her office. I guess my indignation could be plainly seen on my face as the HR secretary asked me right away what was wrong. I told her my complaint and she was completely taken aback. I watched her log on to the security monitoring system of the company which logs all visits and calls made whether inter-department or external. We drew a blank. The secretary was quick to point out that all data about personnel could never be viewed by anyone aside from the HR manager and the owner of the company, both males and both of whom have been working on a project overseas for two months already. She then proceeded to reassure me that there could never be any breach on the company’s security, besides, I’m not exactly such a big fish to hook.

It turned out that my officemate did a personal background check online on me. She said she first tried the free sites but got very little information. What she got made her more curious so she ended up paying for additional information and that was how she found out my exact address. We were with another male officemate when it was all brought out in the open. I could see the apprehension on her face so I decided to back off a little and be gentlemanly about it. I figured her schoolgirl crush on me would soon pass. It’s a good thing I am the reserved type who veers away from talks that are too personal. I hate to think of the embarrassment it would have caused me had I tried to console her about her secret crush on me. You see, before we left the office that day she apologized for having pried into my private life. She said was watching too many mystery movies late at night and that somehow it influenced her into being scared that I was a psycho waiting for the right time to strike.

It got me into thinking that I ought to be grateful I was brought up well. I have an excellent credit and driving history, I also have properties to my name and I have never been involved in any misdemeanor. That must have put my officemate’s apprehensions to rest as we got married two years after.
