Basement sump pump

Types of  backup sump pumps

There are typically two methods of the operation of the backup sump pump which is based on the type of the power system which is used to run the backup sump pump. In the first type the backup sump pump is being triggered by that of the 12V battery and in the second type the backup sump pump is capable of being run on its own by the use of the water pressure which is available as a result of the high pressure which is prevalent.

In case of any strong storms which may occur, which will often lead to the power failure, the battery operated backup sump pump will be very handy in disposing the flooded water. This can be very useful when the normal sump pump fails due to any type of the mechanical causes. There two types of the battery operated backup sump pump, the sealed and the unsealed. The unsealed are usually maintenance free and will provide backup for about 3.5 hours and the unsealed can provide backup for about 7 hours time.

Installation of the backup sump pump

For the battery powered backup sump pump, just charge the battery and connect it to the discharge pipe, ensure that the PVC suction pipes runs deep into the sump pump basin, such that the entire amount of the water is drained off. For the water powered type of the backup sump pump, connect it above the water pump and use the copper piping to connect it with the pump for discharge.
