Baseball From the Eyes of a Child

A fun aspect of this game is that it features professional athletes as kids. Backyard Baseball holds the presitiguous MLB license and features at least one MLB player for every team. It includes all 32 MLB teams as well as their logos and uniforms. You have the option of playing with your favorite teams or you can create your own teams from scratch. You can unlock additional professional players and parks by completing a 16 or 32 game season. If you enjoy playing Wii Baseball and wish it had more options and features, then Backyard Baseball would be a great game for you. Don't expect to play a complicated or in-depth baseball game with a lot of strategy. This game is very simple and is a good one to pull out if you have a group of friends coming over.

Backyard Baseball is available for many different platforms including the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS consoles. Now that the new Nintendo DSi unit is available you can find a lot of Nintendo DS deals online. My Review of Backyard Baseball 2009 for the Nintendo Wii

It’s baseball, and it’s a blast! I had never played the Nintendo Wii before this game. My nephew was playing it at my mom's house one day and my brother and I decided to go head to head in a friendly game of baseball. Neither one of us had ever played before but within a few innings we had it all figured out so it’s an easy game to learn with pretty basic controls. I'm not sure how easy it is to play this game on the portable Nintendo DS Lite console but on the Wii everything is pretty straightforward.

The graphics are nothing like EA Sports and the announcers are fairly annoying but it has good controls and game play which is the most important thing for any video game. I liked the stadiums along with the little special effects and power ups. All major league teams are in the game and you get 11 backyard baseball teams to choose from. There’s a full gambit of game options, Single game, season, tournament, All star game, create a player, home run derby and mini game. The players all have there own talents and skills so you can build a powerhouse team or a team that can run circles around your opponent. You also have different levels of difficulty as you master the game.

My brother started the game laying on the floor and I was sitting on the couch. By the 3rd inning we were both standing, the furniture was moved and mom was telling us to keep it down. That might seem normal but we are in our late thirties and just visiting for the day. My nephew thought it was funny the first couple of games but was not happy about us hijacking his Wii. Growing up I played video games with the Atari, PS2 and everything in between and I don’t remember having more fun that I had playing Backyard Baseball.
