Bacon Bits

Free Lance Writers do not always have the bacon to fry up in the pan; sometimes there comes a time when you need to find the bacon bits to put on the green stuff. Here are a few "shakers" to find bacon bits that can fill up your platter.

Take a few pictures of local landmarks and create some local stationary. Pictures of buildings are nice, but if you live in a small town here is an interesting twist. The two old men sitting on the park bench every morning that seem like part of the landscape. Or kids playing in a locally known park. Locals will buy the stationary with local pictures on it as will the tourist. Add a few well penned words and you have yourself a marketable product relatively quickly.

Stage an open mike at a local coffee shop. Invite select artist to read, sing, or play original music over a period of 4 hours. Most coffee shop owners will not charge you for the use of the facility since they are selling large quantities of their own product. Charge each of the performers a nominal fee for their FREE promotion. Charge local artists a % of sales for the local artwork brought in to be sold during the event. Won't make you rich but your name as a promoter is now out there as well.

Conduct a local writing seminar at either an adult education venue or at a public library. To register a simple fee of $25 to hear tips on writing "---??----" from a published author. You will not believe how many times you will be asked to come back. Local speaking engagements where a nominal fee is paid may even be the result of it.

Got any old bookstores around? Every ones trash is someone else's treasure. I know of someone who found an out of print no longer copy protected book and rewrote it only updating the language and resold sold it as a revised classic. You have to be careful here with copy write laws. With a little research and a bit of elbow grease in the trenches can land you a bundle.

My personal favorite and one that I have been working on with a certain venue for awhile ... advice column on your area of expertise. Contact a local newspaper, magazine or even a web site and offer your services as a how to advice columnist. Pitch your idea. You never ever know where it will lead to. Trust me on this one.

There are more ways to find different flavors of bacon bits. The only thing plugging up the shaker holes is your imagination. If you have some other bacon bit ideas, leave a comment for others to share in the ideas with you. For additional Bacon Bit tips and articles, visit www.ashira.ws.
